Dragon Age: Inquisition not loading Character in creation screen

I've been having so many problems trying to get Inquisition to work today...

It downloaded fine but then on opening, displayed a DirectX Error ... three hours of research and fix attempts later, I can finally open the game.

It seems to run fine when I select 'New Game', I can choose character Race/Class, the difficulty, and load a world state in just fine.

The loading screen takes ages but eventually lets me through to character creation ... except there's nothing there but green fog and occasional flashes.

I've searched all over trying to find a solution or at least a reason and seen other threads where the consensus seems to be the graphics card just can't support it.

Thing is though, I've run this game on this computer, with this graphics card, just fine.  It's been uninstalled for over a year because of other issues I was having with the machine refusing to connect to the internet, and I never had this kind of trouble before.

Can U Run It says I have what I need and should be able to run it with no problem, yet the green fog remains.

All my drivers are up to date

The DirectX Error seemed to be partially (but not fully) related to having the GeForce game settings at optimal.  Knocking them down to a rung below that, in addition to some other steps, got it opening (knocking the settings down was one of the first things I tried but it did nothing on its own, other fixes got it to work, but if I try to optimise the settings again now I get the same error reappearing).

I'm not at all good with this sort of thing and the person I'd usually ask is out of town (I tried to get that DxDiag thing to work with hastebin but it won't either??)

Video Card is GeForce GTX 1070
CPU is Intel(R) Core (TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz

CPU Speed is 3.3 GHz

RAM is 8.0GB

OS is Windows 10

and I have 708GB free disk space

If there is anything anyone can suggest, I would be very grateful - even if that's just the website is wrong and the computer just can't handle it!  I've lost most of my day now trying to get this working.

  • Your system should be able to run it just fine.  How about posting a DxDiag file, you can find directions in the sticky post on how to post to get help.

If it works, then random computer glitch that fixed itself with restart or just because, maybe.....

As far as your DxDiag file goes, you have a bunch of crashes for Origin program and a Razor program(gamemanagers.exe).  Razor background processes are well known here as causing issues with a variety of Bioware games, specifically ones that use the Frostbite engine.   So you may try disabling your Razor program or doing a full clean boot(diagnostics boot) and see if it effects anything.  Also you didn't mention if you have any mods installed, as quiet a few have issues that require their removal or not being used together to get the game to run at certain sections.

Also just make 100% sure you plugged your video cable into your video card output(nvidia) and not into the onboard Intel gpu slot....yeah, i have seen this once and it did cause issues.
