Dragon Age Inquisition Won't Launch

So I reinstalled the game after some years away and on a new PC. It seems Origin doesn't exist anymore and the EA app handles all now. But for the life of me I can't do anything to launch Dragon Age Inquisition... I tried pretty much anything suggested online, such as:

  • Repaired + Unistalled/Reinstalled the EA app + Ran App Recovery several times
  • Set some or all excecutables to Run as Administrator on the EA App directory AND the game itself
  • Disabled Windows Defender/Firewall and/or add exceptions to both
  • Unistalled/Reinstalled/Repaired Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Created a new local account on the PC
  • Cleaned up the registry with CCleaner
  • Disabled/Enabled in game overlay + background services
  • Moved the game to the same directory or a different directory from the App, both on the same drive and different drives
  • Killed any and all background services, including the EA app that likes to stay around

The results were all the same: An infinite notice of "Preparing the Game" or "Launching the Game" and then nothing happens OR I get an error message with a different error code everytime (for example EC 13, 483, 509, 10066..., 1867..., etc.). No game ever starts, no black screens, no DAI excecutable, no nothing...

So, what do I do? Do I just abandon a game I have almost 500 hours on? Keep trying OUTLANDISH things to try and make the EA app to do its job?

@andresdecide Hey, honestly I am not sure why unless the issue with the ISP was blocking a connection which some have before, and when systems were restored on their end an update happened. I had not changed anything on my end to get it to work. DAI is doesn't have an online access or anything so besides replacing the entire game, no changes here would have been made to resolve it.

    Thanks. About system time.

I am planning to start this game today, so hope it all goes smooth.

Using exclusively EA App for this game. (No Steam linking)

Hey so for anyone still experiencing this issue i may have found what the problem was

Sooo i was changing the time on my pc to get around wait times at the war table and forgot to change it back and when i tried to relaunch it i think the dates being off was messing with the cloud saves because after changing the date back it launched perfectly

Thanks for this one! If anyone else is having an issue try this and let us know if this one works for you!

    Thanks!

  • Okay so I posted in a thread very similar to this a year or more ago. I am still having the same problem

    WITH EXCEPTIONS

I get zero errors. I get zero logs that I can find. I have tried ALL of the fixes listed in this thread and others. No change.

I press play in Steam. The button turns blue and says "launching". The EA app launches and tries to launch the game. The EA app disappears and the Steam button turns green "play" again. Game does not launch.

I have tried to run the game with zero mods. It fails every time. The ONLY way the game will boot is if I use the Frosty mod manager with the modded BiowareLocalizationPlugin installed.

I too have tried to make tickets on my account but the page either freezes or redirects with no results.

This problem has persisted for YEARS.

EDIT: Side note, even when I do get the game to run with mods, (and it ALWAYS runs with mods but I'd love to not HAVE to use Frosty) I cannot start a new game as a Qunari mage. Freezes on loading screen every time. Just a weird observation. I've tried to boot the game without mods to see if that's the problem with the Qunari mage issue, but the game won't boot without mods.

Generally: Steam, EA, Epic and probably more clients dont really like each other that much. Of course publishers want to get their games as much publicitiy as possible. Natrually.

However the launchers don't seem to agree.

Specifically. Can you go straight to EA desktop APP and launch it? I don't remember if that is possible. Around three years ago now I stopped using more than one launcher for one game.

Seriously, it saves a lot of "odd," frustrating problems. If I see an EA game on Steam, I shut Steam down and purchase directly from the EA APP.

I've posted this numerous times, and will continue to do so. Simply from several very annoying problems caused by using more than one launcher, which I used to do. Never again!!

The most common by far is Purchase on Steam. Need to launch Steam. It takes you to a second launcher, EA APP. There are now two launchers running processes (probably not that many on Steam after finally gettting into game -case by case?)

Bottom line: Only ever use one launcher (usually the publishers, especially for any EA games). Solves many problems. I can attest to going on 3 years trouble free gaming on the EA APP. (Since not using more than one launcher per game.)

Man, them launchers really hate each other. Avoid. Plus imagine if they go AI !! Battle of the launchers!! 😬

Kidding (kind of) but if you can skip Steam altogether then that may well help. Good luck!

@Wulfypants42 To chime in on what you posted. EA officially does not support mods for the game. So when a player says I've had this issue for years! there are a lot of factors in that one.

    Origin vs EA app
    Steam/Origin/EA app
    Mods
    Modded saves

Then you get into what is on each player's PC. Countless programs are being installed and uninstalled
    Windows updates
    Antivirus and Malware programs.

In order for live support to help, they are, or should go through all of these and the moment you have a mod installed, they cant do much because mods from somewhere like FrostyMod aren't officially supported. Regardless if everyone uses them and they do work, support will make you delete it all before they can actually assist you.

So over the forums, other players can say try this and that, but for a CM to step in, we will say you need to delete anything mod related, and then add a DXDiag file for us or our heroes and champions to review for you.

Also seeing this issue. Game launches for a second (according to Task Manager) and then the EA App just reloads.

I'm running no Third party antivirus and no mods - its possible I have modded saves in the cloud but there doesn't seem to be a way to delete cloud saves only the local ones when they sync - which does happen if I launch the game.

    @Kalzaryn

Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply. You can do that with the "Choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

    @Kalzaryn

There are no Inquisition related errors in the DxDiag, so lets start with basic troubleshooting.

    • Follow this manual to the letter to cleanly uninstall all NVIDIA driver components.
    • Install the graphics driver > Go online.
    • Test.
