Dragon Age Inquisition won't start

DA:I was working back in May when I last played. Now it just stops loading after I select "continue game" and the random tips screen fades away. The music stops and the loading icon also stops.

I've tried repairing the game. I've updated the game. I've tried disabling AVG temporarily. My graphics drivers are up-to-date according to AMD's auto-detect app. I've been using "run as admin" whenever possible. Nothing worked.

I tried going through some of the old posts but couldn't find any fixes/ideas. I'm on Windows 7. Origin and DA:I might be on different hard drives?

Please help!

@ellsworth81 According to dxdiag your GPU drivers are over a year old. I know the AMD app tends to... suck, somewhat, so it might be worth checking the AMD website in case there are, in fact, newer drivers available for your GPU. (I checked, it looks like the latest/last drivers for your card for Windows 7 64 bit were released in July last year. I can't tell if your drivers are from August or April, because your dates may be in US format or normal, I can never tell. There is also a beta version of Crimson for legacy cards like yours, it was released early this year, not sure if installing that will be beneficial or not. Here is the page for legacy drivers applicable to your card and OS if you would like to take a look yourself). 

Now that I've looked at all that, it's possible your issue has nothing to do with your GPU or drivers. Still worth checking they're as up to date as possible, though. 🙂

Do you have the same issue if you try starting a new game, saving it and loading that save (or using the continue button)? I'm leaning towards the issue possibly being to do with your save(s), so experimenting may help figure out if that's the case.

Are your saves stored locally on your computer, or are you using cloud saves, or both? You may want to make sure to back up local copies of your saves before doing anything, Origin cloud saves do sometimes have a habit of being too easy to accidentally delete.

Has anything changed with your computer since the last time you managed to successfully play the game? Any new hardware, OS changes (other than the obvious Windows updates), anything like that?

Do you have mods installed? How about DLC?

Your hard drives look a bit full, that can sometimes cause issues, might not hurt to try to clear some space.

I didn't think to load a different save file. That ended up working. Lost an hour or so of "progress". Thanks for the help!

Indeed after 26, I even read the 27th :P pages of different solutions, disabeling my AVG worked. Maybe an OP can  make a list with solutions. and seriously flag this as a solution as well

I was having this issue of the game not starting (or rather, after checking the reliability monitor - game was immediately crashing upon startup so quickly nothing visible was occurring), tried all the fixes under the sun (re-install, run as admin, clear cache, clear licence, disable origin, re-install vp/.net frameworks, make pagan sacrifices, summon the devil upon EA and watch them fight in battle to see who is most evil, etc, etc) and then finally came across this solution...

Turned off Razor Synapse. Boom - immediate fix. 

Turns out this is a simple software/resource conflict...

It's 2017 and I just bought this game a few days ago. Will be back to whinge some more if any further issues :P

So i did all of that, and the game still wont even get any further than a black screen of nothing for about 5 seconds then close. i have repaired updated and ran the installer you suggested, i have restarted Origin and my computer all to no avail. Please help

I see no mention of testing with the AV software removed, since that has been the most common problem for months now!   It was AVG first, then Avast, and now I believe still another.  You also have not mentioned having previously provided the community here with a copy of your DxDiag report.

once i finally got to the page that mentioned the AV problem i tried that, and it seems to have worked but to me that is not a solution since it leaves my computer open to attack. i did not see anywhere that said we were to leave a DxDiag report.

Once the test proves where the problem is originating, you have to learn how your AV deals with so-called "exceptions" (some- times called "exclusions"), and block it from interfering the the game's folder, the Origin folder, and the game saves folder.  Then, with the AV you are using, if it is AVG, particularly, any time that program gets any updates, or Origin's client is updated, or the game gets anything new, either a patch or a newly released DLC you want, you probably must re-do all those exceptions.
