So lets spell this out.

1) I buy the game on steam and install it to my newly built computer.

 it then takes 5 hours of constantly launching from steam only to have the game lock up at the start menu, no response anywhere. after crawling through forums and hard restart after hard restart with each new attempt. I finally read that i needed to launch from origin.

2) 6 hours later, because origin did not recognize the installation that steam did, I finally get into the game,

3) I play for about 14 hours and while the story and voice acting is what I've come to expect from EA, the graphics however show their age, badly. So i start looking for mods to enhance the graphics.

4) 4 days of attempt after attempt, 4 hours a day, and I have been unsuccessful in getting the game to launch with mods involved. origin has told me several times that my files were corrupted and FORCED me to do a fresh reinstall every time i make an attempt, because the only option to get the game to work is to launch it from origin.

5) I can launch the game just fine with origin, i would just like to enjoy the game with more enhanced graphics and highly detailed textures.

I'm using nexus mod manager at the moment, is there a command line i need to plug in so that it will launch DAO through origin?

  • @Bleo1283;

    a. Your DXdiag report was superfluous.  (And should have used the "hidden" tag.)

    b. NMM doesn't support any Dragon Age-series game, and never has.

    c. NMM is no longer supported by its own developers.

    d. The replacement for NMM (Vortex) also doesn't support DA-games very well.

    e. DAO-ModManager (DAMM) is probably the best tool for DA games, but;

    f. Read this article: Using Dragon Age Mods for Dummies and learn to mange your own mods.

  • There is a 4gb patch you may need to install (look up NT Core 4gb patch). I also have DA: O Ultimate Edition and am running about 14 mods with no issue. I am also using Windows 10, but launching the game through EA Origin.

    You don't need a mod manager for DAO. You may need 7zip to unpack some mods, but almost every mod is copy and paste into Documents/Dragon Age/packages/core/override. If you do have a mod that's in 7z (7zip) format, you'll have to use DA Updater (in the bin_ship folder of your game folder, wherever that's been installed) to install those mods.

    What I can suggest with your mods is make sure they're coming from Nexus. Every mod hosted there is tested for viruses and problems. If you absolutely HAVE to have a graphics update, I can suggest RDP (Realistic DAO Project), though it's incredibly memory intensive. You'll be rebooting your game every 30 minutes or so. DAO is 10 years old, it's going to look 10 years old.

    Well, no.

    While it's true that *most* mods (by sheer count) are designed to be simply dropped into the player's "\override" folder, a significant minority, including many of the most popular ones, are either packaged as ".dazip" files which require installation with the built-in "DAUpdater" utility, or are "Character Creator" (CC) appearance mods that require their own special handling.

    I too am running the Ultimate Edition under Win10/64-bit, (with the "4GB hak") and generally have about 50 mods in use at any one time.  No problem, if you understand how to install the different kinds correctly.

    As I said, see this article for a better understanding of the various types:
