No problem at all.
Under Mac you have a Preference folder for every game or software you are running. This file contains basic set up for your game. If something gets corrupted there this kind of message or crash can occur. If I am not mistaken the path to find that folder is under Users\[username]\Library\Preferences.
From there, look for the Dragon Age Origins folder and simply delete it. When you will run the game again, this folder will be created anew.
Hopefully this will work without having to reinstall the game.
just tried that, didn't work, still have the same issue. Hopefully I didn't just waste $30 on this. BTW i have uninstalled and reinstalled twice with no change.

I am having almost the exact same problem, only I don't hear any audio while the screen is black. Installing the game was a huge pain—I had to run the installer something like 12 times before it finally "took".
Did you ever find a solution? Getting customer support from EA is like pulling teeth. I just want to play this dumb game.
