Error: "This save data was created with a newer version of the game"

After updating some older hardware, I decided to install a fresh copy of Windows. The install went fine and I got the Origin client installed. Instead of having to re-download the game, I moved the game install files to another directory, started the game download in Origin, paused the game download, moved the game files back to the game install directory, then resumed the download. This successfully finished quickly enough and I was able to launch the game.

When I attempt to load any of my saved games, it gives me the following error: "This save data was created with a newer version of the game. Please download the latest patch and try again."

Backing out of the game, I right-click the game in Origin and click "Check for Updates" which comes back saying the game is up to date. I purchased the deluxe edition upgrade previously, but Origin says those files are installed as well.

I really don't want to have to replay the 25 hours I already have in my latest playthrough. How do I fix this?

I got tired of waiting for a response and just deleted the install folder and redownloaded the game. Took a stupid long time, but it is working now. I was able to load up my save game and play again.

I had the exact same problem. I managed to get it working by closing origin, deleting everything except the Data folder, and starting the download again. It only needs to grab about 400mb then, hopefully this helps anyone who comes in from Google, like I did.

I also get the message about the newer version is installed and I can get into the game but I can't save. I have tried uninstalling origin and sims 4, reinstalling both, repairing the games several times. When I open the game I can get in but I cannot access any of the old games I have played, they are gone. I always have to create a new sim, the i buy a house play, but the game won't save. I am frustrated with everything. Why play if I can't save. I have a new computer so that's not a problem. I have been playing since the first sims game was released and this is the first time I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Please fix this bug

I have done a lot of decorating in Sims4 only to have it all go down the tubes when I opened Sims 4 and the notification told me that the saved game that you were attempting to load was saved with a newer version of Sims 4 than you have currently installed. What are they talking out. I have to same games installed on my computer that I had 2 days ago. When I tried to save to game upon exiting..it crashed! I am so sick up with Sims 4...I wish EA would get this game together or discontinue it! It says also to update. Update what? As far as I know, it suppose to be updated. Can anyone help?
