fade rifts in the hinterlands

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I can't beat the fade rift in the hinterlands. I learned from reading the forum that I needed to look up for the indicator and that it only happens when it goes hard crystal, so I've been able, the last few times, to disrupt the rift a couple of times. But my character keeps dying before anything is accomplished. Not sure what to do and am about to just put this game in the dust pile with skyrim.

  • This was exactly my experience also. When I couldn't beat the encounter even on casual, I happened to notice the level of the rift mobs was 12, when my group was 6-7. I'm not sure what was intended here, but for now I'm working in areas where the mobs are level 8, and hoping I don't run out of them before I'm high enough to tackle those rifts.

Playing on nightmare I found focusing on killing the demons first, say about half of them, then disrupting the rift made it a bit easier. Even at level some of the rifts have an overwhelming number of demons to fight otherwise.
  • The PC controls make closing fade rifts stupid hard.  You can barely see them in tactical view, and trying to slew the camera up to them is awkward.  Not to mention the areas in the Hinterlands that are supposedly more difficult than the others are not marked.  It's easy to to end up where you shouldn't be yet and get thumped.

Don't use tactical view, use Pause mode from your main character.  It will let you pan the camera where you need.  Tactical view doesn't let you look up, but the pause view still does.

For me, i am a rogue, so i just steath, let my warrior taunt everything, then do the interaction each wave.  You don't really have to kill any of the monsters, just survive long enough to close the rift.

That said, there are some of the rifts that have demons that are 1.5 to 2 times the level as my characters when i encountered them.  For those, i waited till i was a bit bigger to got back and close them.
