Focus Gain Glitch

I'll start by stating I'm not too sure what other mechanics are playing into this bug occuring but after I obtained the Tier 2 Focus Ability perk that allows you more Focus bars and stronger abilities, after a death on...let's say on the Inquisitor, I stop gaining focus. Here's an example of what I notice; You have 1 full bar of focus and have some of those blue diamond thingies working towards another full bar and suffer a death, upon revival the blue diamonds are gone yet the first full bar is still there. Can still use the ability but afterwards will not be able to gain focus from attacking **bleep**.

I work around this by realizing when I'm suffering from the bug and merely saving and loading at that time.  Seems that the act of reloading the file alleviates the issue but this workaround isnt viable when facing a dragon or something when deaths are bound to occur.  Feels bad when I go 3/4ths or half a battle with no more focus ability advantages.

If someone can recreate this bug then that'd be a load off of my mind since at the moment it could just be the way the game is performing for me...btw I play on PC if that makes a difference.

  • Apologies, it's been a long day.

In your case, yes, I would definitely say it is bugged/glitched.

The save-reload thing thankfully restores the maximum focus, but as far as I know, there's no way of regaining your accumulated forcus (short of loading an earlier save, which would involve replaying at least the battle your Herald died in and hoping that doesn't happen again, or grinding). Does anyone know if there's a console command that instantly fills your focus bars? That in combination with the save-reload fix would almost neutralize this bug. (Not completely, though, since you'd still lose your unused extra focus bars for the battle's duration if you were knocked out and revived during a battle...)

  • Okay, first i'm sorry my bad Elz. I got same trouble when i death once, my focus bar stuck at tier one even i unlocked tier 3. I don't try to reload , i keep doing "demands  of the Qun" quest (i'm lv 20, training hard). During quest time my focus stuck at tier 1 and can't gain, but after i decide to save Iron Bull's man and come back Skyhold, i did realize that's my focus bar gain 3 dots of tier 2. So i travelling to Fallow Mire alone and hit some mob and focus bar keep gaining to tier 3. I don't know how but i hope this can help everyone here solve their trouble, i think may be u should do some quest like "demands of the qun" that automatically  moving your locations between some maps

  • YO! I bet one or more of your party members have full focus, eh? Use that *! BOOM! Gain that focus again!

It's not buggy, no need for a "workaround", and the Superb Belt of Focus is fine. I literally had just done this and wanted to post asap because I was just as annoyed as y'all were for the past hour or so.

I don't know the technicality of it... something something other party members are at full focus, therefore henceforth you can't gain focus la de blah blah...

I * love this game! I * love all of you! Maker be with you!

It's a bug. That's not how it should work. And it's still present, even after the recent 1.7 GB patch. I've tried every workaround I can find, but my warrior's focus bar is permanently stuck at the first bar.

It esay. Use tout focus skill ans thé bug will lift. Use this when you die ans thé focus will reste and gain after this.
  • I can not believe Bioware has not fixed this in over 9 months. I genuinely wonder if they even know what's wrong with their games half the time.

  • I think I may have found a version of the problem.  The focus meter covers 100 units of focus per bar.  On my monster screen, each bar is 3.5" long and I'm sure that on smaller screens it is smaller.  That means that each unit of focus represents .0035ths of an inch.  Going up by only a few units of focus doesn't register visually.  I have found that even when the focus meter doesn't appear to move, if I go to the character menu, I see that I've gained some small amount of focus, in the 2-5 unit range.  So what people are calling a "Focus Gain Glitch" may be a "Focus UI Glitch" instead.  There is gain, you just can't see it.

One experiment I thought was strange was that I was testing whether focus was divided among the group and sent my Inquisitor out alone near the swamp camp in the Frostback Basin.  Killing a tusket netted me 5 focus (280 to 285), but then killing a gurgut and even using a combo in the process, netted me only 2 focus from 285 to 287.  And this was while wearing the Master Belt of Focus (+35% gain).  Killing another tusket straight up, no combos, got me 4 focus, to 291.  Killing another gurgut with a combo, got me 4 focus to 291.

All I can surmise is that there is some sort of randomization to the gain.  Also, if focus gains are always this low, the belts are pointless, because a percentage gain over a low amount doesn't increase it significantly.
