Game changing the gender of my Hawke... (X-Box 360)

The codex entry is correct, but when Hawke makes an appearance, it's a male human and my Hawke was a female elf.  I did the keep and made sure everything was correct.  Up to this point, Varric kept referring to Hawke as a guy, but I thought it was just a bugged conversation...  I am 80 hours in and this ruined the game for me.
