Game crashing when meeting Hawke / Hawke's lost her face!

Briefly: bought the game a few days ago, got to Skyhold, went to meet Hawke. Game asked if I wanted the default or custom Hawke, chose default because she was the best, game crashes to desktop immedia...

Repaired game. Started game. Spoke to Varric. Chose 'default'. Crashed to desktop.

I find this crash occurs if you're loading an autosave and then selecting default hawke.
Easiest way to get past this, select "Custom Hawke" and then just confirm the default head as your selection.
