Game won't launch

I'm no longer able to get Dragon's Age Inquisition to launch, opens a window briefly, then closes it. Changing Origin to launch on start-up worked once to get the game to come up, but nothing after that.

  • Hi @qct59iv6wl

    Ensure that your Firewall and/or Antivirus are not blocking the connection.The easiest way would be adding an exception for the Origin Client.
    You need to do this add firewall/antivirus exceptions for Origin and open the needed ports http://help.ea.com/en/article/connection-issues-with-origin/#1

    Make sure your internet connection is not running through a proxy.Go to Internet Options in Control Panel > check the Connections tab and make sure the proxy server is not checked. Check the internet settings again after giving restart the PC.

    Clear Origin cache and for this you get a perfectly detailed post from @EA_Nils >>http://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin/my-origin-will-not-update-my-sims-4/m-p/4721983#M163410

    Restart your machine .

    You need to perform a Clean Boot: http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

    Spoiler
    you need to press the key combination: “Windows Key + R”;
    In the “Run” window, type the message “msconfig” without quotes;
    -you need to left click on the “OK” button;
    Select “General” tab, from the toolbar and chose the feature called “ Selective startup”;
    -uncheck the box found in the left of the message: “ Load startup items”;
    Select “Service” tab, from the toolbar;
    -check the box in the left of message: “Hide all Microsoft services”;
    Left click on the “Disable all” button, found on the lower-right side of the window;
    Left click on the “OK” button;
    -a new message box will prompt on your display. Left click on the “Restart” button in order to restart your operating system.

    NOTE save any open files and close all programs before restarting your computer.

    Run the setup file Origin with Admin rights  http://help.ea.com/en/article/how-do-i-run-a-program-or-a-game-as-an-administrator/#2

     Now go in Origin / MyGames tab,right click on game icon select Repair Game and then Check for Updates

    @salty_meatstick Fault module name ashwooka.dll, listed about half way down the text means it is Avast/avg causing issue. So the exceptions global for Origin, DAI, and DAI saves folder should fix it if you haven't already done so. Or uninstall your anti virus and choose a different brand.

    @Praxxium if you look under Fault module name, you will see ASHWOOK.DLL, that is avast or maybe even AVG anti-virus(since avast bought AVG some years ago) interfering with the starting of your game. To fix this you have 3 options, one is to put global exclusions for DAI, DAI saves folder and Origin app in the anti-virus. You can most times disable the anti-virus temporarily to allow it to start. Or you can uninstall your AV and get a different one.

    If you go the exception/exclusion way, please remember that there are two different exclusion lists, one is for scanning only and the other is global. Scanning means it will not scan those files but will still stop action from those files, meaning it will still stop or interfere with the game. Global exception means it will totally ignore those files and actions from them. So Global is the version you need to put in.

    @Michi_Fenrir

    I would suggest you make a new forum topic, list the info asked for in the sticky at the top of this forum on how to post to get help.  There are people here who will help you, but there is no way we can ever hope to give any meaningful help without info....starting with what platform you are playing on, aka PC, PS, Xbox??
