Gates of Toth..........how do you open the door?
It says the door will open only with some kind of mechanism................what & where is it? It's in the Western Approach NE middle section.
Nevermind........use the north entrance.

Well, indeed, and I've done all that. I may not have made it clear, but I'm doing all this right at the end of the game--indeed I am now post-endgame, so to speak, having defeated The Big C and taken my victory lap at Skyhold--so I have explored every corner, nook, and cranny of The Western Approaches, found every region and landmark except those associated witht eh Gates of Toth, fulfilled every mission I've been assigned there--indeed when I passed through the camp on my way to exploring this time, I was buttonholed by the requsitions officer and tasked with (I believe the third time) doin the geological survey, which I dutifully turned in, having a vast surplus of the materials required.
I think the quest of which you speak is glitched, in that I may have fulfilled it without going through the Gates of Totrh, and now it's too late. In any event it is of no great consequence, it just offends my completist bone, is all...
I had to deal with this one today. Hopefully, I'm giving the correct answer. Once you've cleared Echoback, which is to the north, you go south and curve around the desert, until you find the (for me) final landmark and a switch that opens the gates of Toth.
