Gender issue?

@uzsibox What did you choose exactly during character creation? Did you toggle just gender? Or also class and race itself?

Any additional info would be helpful.

Maybe it is because the default sex choice is female instead of the classical male.

1. Not with my first Character.  I started a second character to tweak his look.  He somehow switch to a woman completely by the time I got to creating him.  So I started a third and now I'm having the "gender bender" issue.

2. No.  When I tried again it worked as it should have.  

I'd normally be fine with it a just start again.  But I've already put quite a bit of time into my character now.  Do you guys know yet if it will even be possible to fix this problem in a patch anytime soon?   If so, awesome; If not then I'd lke to know so that I don't put in a **bleep** ton of hours on an unfixable character.

Can anyone from EA confirm if this seems to be patchable at all? I REALLY don't want to start over...

(And does anyone know if this blocks potential romances? As a male I have flirting options with Cassandra, but she's rejected me so far. Not sure if that can happen without the bug, too.)

So I created new character in the evening yesterday. Human male, one hand and shield warrior. I played during intro and a bit after and npcs were refering to me as her and sometimes I could hear two audio tracks of npc voice or something like that. That was all when playing on my gf PC.

Today I got home and started DA:I on my pc and I am running around Haven. I am still at the point before the Inquisition is formed, but when I am reading patient notes they refer to me, the patient, as him. And I entered cathedral or curch or whatever where I will talk with Cassandra and form Inquisition and as I hear her talking with that guy NPC they are refering to me as him.

So did the issue fix itself? Or was it something with game files on the other PC? Howerer, it is strange issue :/

Also having this issue... But I have something interesting to add, I think @EA!

My problems so far:

1. First char: male, Qunari, two-handed warrior, NPCs were referring to me as female from the start. I didn't like the look and class of my char, so I started a new one.

2. male, Elf, two-handed rougue. NPCs were referring to me as male and female (Cassandra and Varric always as female, most other NPCs as male). Played through the tutorial and decided - again - to start a new game.

3. Same char as in 2., but this time I tried the "workaround" (with every option, gender, class and race).

And here comes my interesting point:  I already noticed in the final description at the end of character creation that I'm referred to as female (I'm playing the german version of the game). My elfish background talks about my char as "Spionin" (german female form of "spy" instead of "Spion", what would be the correct male form of the noun "spy"). This mistake in the description didn't change, no matter how often I changed my race, class or gender during character creation. I have always been referred to as female.

My conclusion is that the game does it wrong from the start due to the incorrect description of my character's history. Nevertheless, I played the game and I'm running around Haven now. And: most of NPCs (and letters or other text messages) are referring to me as female. Only a few NPC's are using the correct male form. Btw: I never uesd Dragen Age Keep!

I would like to add to my previous post - I  have formed Inquisition and now NPCs are refering to me as if I were a female again. So only in  the part in Haven between waking up and forming Inquisition NPCs and journals, documents were refering to me as male.

I have used Dragon Keep when creating my character.

Hi I also experienced this bug but by the time I had realized what was going on I was 24 hours into my completionist playthrough :/

In any case, I am now restarting and using the advice of these threads was able to replicate this issue with relative consistency.  (Not cycling through options for gender/class vs cycling)

This bug also seemed to be consistent with the first combat scene where you end up with the wrong weapon/armor setup as well.  There would be plenty of combinations that would be unaffected by the bug however so in those cases it would be transparent .

Once I verified in the first cut scene that I am referred to by my proper gender then I was pretty confident the rest would be good.  I do not play with subtitles on and once they were temporarily enabled it was easy to identify any disrepancies in the dialogues.  I also just passed back over the haven event mentioned in the previous post and they are still referring to me as male so that is good.  I can see at least the consistency in this bug, which speaking as a programmer myself is good for them in identifying/resolving this kind of issue faster.

So this redudant cycling through gender/class as you choose your character during creation, and confirming proper gender reference/starting weapon in the opening cutscenes can give you relative confidence that you will not experience this, in my opinion, immersion breaking bug.  It starts to get really bad as half the time you don't even realize they were referencing you until after the fact when your brain post processes.

Luckily the game is overall pretty great and it gave me a chance to actually use my Dragon Keep tapestry import, which I had not taken advantage of at launch 🙂

I am also having this issue with my male PC, though it seems that I'm addressed by my close NPCs as a male, but the crowds address me as female.

I've noticed a few smart Alec replies to this issue saying it's about gender fluidity which is complete tosh.

I'm going to stop playing until the patch comes out, because I find the dichotomy very jarring and breaks the immersion.
