How do I change the local save file location?

I downloaded the game through Steam and made it so the game installed on my high capacity hard drive, but after playing for a while I noticed that my saves and addons were being stored in my documents folder on my C Drive, which has a lot less capacity. How can I shift these files into my D: drive?

I already tried to change the location of my save files by copying the bioware file into my D: drive and then editing the DAOrigins config file to go through this new direction but I must have done something wrong since it hasn't worked.

Please let me know of any possible solutions. Thank you in advance.

  • The cleanest, surest, way to do this is by performing a complete un-/re-install (having backed-up your "\Characters" folder first, of course. 😕mileytongue: )

During the installation you can choose a specific location for saves.

But if you don't want to do that, then this article might help: "Moving a Steam Installation and Game":

So I just uninstalled the game and began re-installing it through Steam. It didn't ask me where I wanted my save files, it only asked me where I wanted to store the game.

When I first installed it the game was indeed located in my D: drive (just as I specified), but my save files were located in my C: drive and I'm not sure that's going to change just by re-installing it. I'll let you know once the installation process finishes.

  • Nope, didn't work.

Main game can still be found in my SteamApps, but my characters, save files, and addons are still stored in my documents on my C: Drive.
