How do I get rid of the "Console" Command Menu on PC

Saddly, there is no way to disable the '~' Console button.  You can plug in an Gamepad and play with that, but if you use the KBD/Mouse, you can't fix it. ☹️

This has happened to me at least 5 times and I am not even through 1/3 of the Hinterlands.  I have to close out of the game and restart it each time.  It is a royal pain and really takes away from any immersion that is occurring.  I'm going to remap all of my skills starting wih the highest number and try to avoid the '1' key.  I accidentally hit the ~ key when I am in a heated battle and trying to keyboard with one hand and mouse with the other.  Any patch that includes a way to close the Console feature (Shift ~ or Cntrl Shift ~, for example) would be appreciated.

I finally got frustrated enough that I just key smashed all over the key board & the menu went away. The next time this happens I'll try a less cat like method of solving this problem.

Just press the ~ key. Pretty much the universal console key.

I'll go as far as to call this a bug. It should NOT be enabled by default, and it's very annoying. The console is a great feature to have active if you are a developer, but Im just a frustrated player who's hoping for the best immersion experience possible...well, thats killed. Please fix this bug asap.

On the computer the it's the ~ (Tilde) key which is to the left of the 1 key.

Based on my experience for the last 10 minutes, if the console comes up unbidden you go to the task manager, press 'end process' and hope you or the game saved recently.

~ does not work, it is not a recognised command by the console.  Clearly nothing to do with wireless not crumbs either.  Type list to get a list of command and you get a screenful of mystery commands none of which look useful. No exit, no quit,,,,

Even more annoying when looking through a ocularum.

Update:

Firstly not everyone uses an American. keyboard.  ~ is not to the left of the 1 key on the UK keyboard, ~ is a shift # and to the right of the keyboard..

Then, my comment above, that ~ doesn't work, is fair enough.  And if you press the key that really is to the left of 1 (i.e. ¬´¦) it is also taken as a console command and so also doesn't work; as the console states that it is not a valid command.  But ignore the failure and keep trying it and it can work eventually.  Perhaps it is a deliberate feature not to work some times in order to mislead the gamer and increase frustration ?

Thank you so much.  I have not played in quite some time and I hit the console key three times.  This worked perfectly.

As several others have said (but perhaps not quite clearly enough...)

The "  ~  " key is a toggle. 

Press it once, the Command Console opens. 

Press it again, it closes.

(Fairly simple, but I agree that it would have been nice to have had some instructions!)

I had the exact same frustration with the "Run" key early in my first playthrough.  I hit whichever key it was mapped to at the time by accident, then couldn't figure out how to STOP running!  😃 

My Quizzy went over more than one cliff, and I swiped my palm across the keyboard several times attempting to get lucky before I finally understood what was going on!
