How to enable developer console on EA Desktop?

Hey y'all! Just another unfortunate soul getting screwed over by the ridiculous decision to force a large percentage of your customer base to use an app that's in beta.

I'm trying to play Dragon Age Origins with the in-game console enabled, but everything I've tried doesn't work. Seriously, I've done every single method the wiki outlines, none of them work. I even downloaded the DAOriginsLauncher.xml file from a friend of mine who plays on steam, to no avail. From what I can tell, the only way is to use the built-in command line in origin, which EA Desktop does not have.

I genuinely cannot play without the dev console. I'm having a mod conflict that requires me to add XP manually, and neither mod is one I'd like to disable. Does anybody here know another way to enable it that isn't on the wiki? Thanks!

Wiki page in question

  • In 'My Collection' push three dots button and 'View Properties' Then in Advanced launch options write -enabledeveloperconsole

Maybe someone already found this, but i cant find it on the internet

  • I figured it out.

In EA clicking the three dots then adding the -enabledeveloperconsole works

then you go to mydocs/bioware/settings/configini and replace grave with tilde for the line that says developerconsole

It does show on the upper left corner. Enter will close it

this game crashes a ton so be aware that even though its such a great game, you will have to endure setbacks ands lost play time because even saves get lost in the crashes some times.

  • Total necro post but I thought I'd post a solution for those that couldn't make it work through the EA app. The shortcut method in the Wiki still works, albeit with some changes. I'll detail it below for those who need instruction.

Note: This won't work with the Ultimate edition in Steam.

Create a shortcut on your desktop, Start Menu, or anywhere else to the file daorigins.exe, which is now located in "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship"

Right click the shortcut and choose properties. In the Target field add the following parameter at the end of the line: -enabledeveloperconsole. It should look like this:

    "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Dragon Age\bin_ship\daorigins.exe" -enabledeveloperconsole

Make sure that there is a single space between the last quotation mark and the hyphen.

Partially quoted with corrections from the Dragon Age Console Wiki located here: https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Console_(Origins)

Lastly, go into C:\Users\*username*\Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age\Settings (Or the equivalent for your computer) and find the keybindings.ini file. Open it with either C++ or Notepad and modify the key assigned to Openconsole from Grave to Tilde. Then make sure to download the following mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/dragonage/mods/1110

    Enjoy!
