Solved

I can't talk to anyone after the main quest.

I'm wondering if this is intentional, because it doesn't seem like it.

So I finished the main quest, despite my hesitation - because the game promised I could continue playing and doing other quests after. So far, I've been able to do war table quests and such, I brought someone to judgement, etc. But I can't talk to anyone. I go up to them and press the button to talk, they make a comment, the dialogue wheel flashes for half a second and then it goes away. There's no option to talk to anyone.

The dialogue is half of the reason that I play this game. It's amazing and hilarious, and I love bugging my companions until they have nothing left to say, but now I can't! Cullen made a new comment about my Inquisitor about how lovely she looked (which was awesome) but I couldn't respond! I don't want to feel like I'm ignoring everyone.

Was this intentional of Bioware? I'm just not supposed to talk to my companions after the main quest? And I know that the Trespasser DLC is supposed to have to do something with events after the base game, but I'm not in the best money situation right now and I'd have to wait a week and a half at least before I could afford it. Not to mention that the base game should be absolutely complete.

I'm hoping this is a bug. I've loved Dragon Age for a while now and sometimes it's hard to keep with them when stuff like this happens.

  • Unfortunately, after finishing the main quest, your companions will speak to you once (generally a comment about whoever became Divine), and then will just give you a generic greeting. Unsure if you still get banter while out and about exploring (as I do everything I want to do before finishing the game, since it's rather boring when nobody will speak to you).
This is why they made Trespasser for us. If you can't afford it right now, there's always the other option of starting a new playthrough, with a different world state, making different choices, with a different character (and bringing different combinations of followers along, to see what they says to each other). 😉 I've lost count of how many playthroughs I've got, and I'm still finding new stuff.

So Trespasser does grant us the ability to talk to them again. At least I have that. I'm still a little frustrated, but not as much as I was earlier. Starting to regret finishing the game, but at least I know. That's frustrating because it was an actual dilemma for me.

Alright, thank you for answering! I'll start up a new playthrough.
