Is there a way to change world states?

I imported the wrong world state into my game and played for about 15 hours before I noticed. Is there any way to change this without starting a new game?

It's a little tedious to make sure you get the correct save imported for sure and the option to do it can be missed easily as well, but it's also pretty simple. Make sure you have the import data you want correctly tagged in the DA Keep and when you start a new game in DAI, be sure to look for the Import World (or something along those lines; been ages since I've played) along the bottom of the screen. When the option appears be sure to press the button (I'm on Xbox so it's Y for me) and it should import. You need to be connected to the Internet as well in order for it to import, but I'm sure your aware of that. And that's it. I get that playing for 15 hours only to find out that all your * didn't transfer over, but not much you can do at this point really. And the practicality of being able to switch your world state mid game is really silly as it can easily make events contradict each other as some options are unavailable when certain ones are selected. As players, it's on us to make sure stuff like this is done properly if we want it to be done our way, Bioware just gives us the means to do it. Sure it flops sometimes cause DAI is glitchy as all heck, but not much the developers will do at this point. Just make sure the world state you want is correctly tagged in the keep and make sure to see and use the import option as you begin creating your new save in game and you'll be fine.

@ThandalNLymanYou say that, however, I have run into the same issue rather recently.  I picked the game back up after a long time, I went to start playing, and it defaulted to the normal tapestry it gives you when there's no sort of import data or anything.  Despite the fact that I have only one tapestry, it's set to be used on a new DAI game, and so on.  I checked everything several times so no, it doesn't always correctly import the world stat that you mark.  If it did, then this wouldn't be an issue.  Regardless of that fact, considering the first real opportunity most people are going to notice is when they get to Skyfall, and hear about their character from the second game.  It's a pretty big issue that you can't change world states for an existing saved game.  Also before you want to go saying something about internet connection being an issue, I keep my games and system regularly updated and it's on console so even less of a reason for this to pop up as an issue.  The fact that it can't be changed and the fact that there's not a clear indication until you wasted, depending on your schedule, days of playing and around 15 hours of gameplay time, is rather inexcusable.  Due to this issue, I actually find myself not wanting to play the game because of the fact I now have to recreate my character, ensure the world state is properly loaded, then replay through all that stuff and see everything all over again, including some of the more rage inducing bits.  Then with there being no way to ensure, in game, that it's loaded properly, I could potentially end up wasting another dozen hours of gametime and days of playing just to find out in Skyfall that it didn't import correctly.

  • Not sure what to tell you other than I have seven different World States, with Wardens and Champions of varying races (DAO), genders, classes, and plot selections.

Sometimes the Warden is a Human Noble who marries Alistair, sometimes he's an Elven Mage who follows Morrigan through the Eluvian.  Sometimes the Champion is an asskicking Warrior, sometimes she's a Mage who freaks Fenris out.  (Most often, both are Rogues.)  Sometimes Bhelen rules Orzammar.  Sometimes Ser Varnel gets help.  (Ok, neither of those very often.)

However, across all those World States, and over a dozen full DAI play-throughs using a different W-S to start things off each time, I've never had a "WTF?" moment where the game presented something from the a W-S that I wasn't expecting.

NOTE: I am always careful to match the Date/Time Stamp of the W-S I've designated for use when starting DAI against the Date/Time Stamp that DAI presents when importing it. And I have (occasionally) noticed that I hadn't properly switched the W-S default in the Keep to be the one I wanted for a particular DAI run.  🤭

Full Disclosure: I always choose to use the "default Champion appearance" in DAI because I don't have the patience to reconstruct a face each time.  But the gender/class has always been correct.

  • First person I've seen who actually had the solution I was looking for. Even years later!

    Thanks so much!

  • I need help, I don't know what happened, I altered something in Dragon Age keep, and now I want to revert it back to the original world state from all the original playthroughs that I've made, is it possible to fix it without making a new game?

    I'm on Xbox btw

@Nomansir9 Unfortunately once you've imported your world state and started your game with it, you can't change it without starting a new playthrough (importing the changed world state). Sorry I couldn't give you better news.

@Nomansir9 If you are talking about changing the Keep to reflect your original world state, sure, you may already have a save version of it on the keep you just have to choose it again and set it for download and lock it in.  If you are talking about changing a world state during play of a DA:I run, then @Leora85 is correct and you would have to restart a new game with the new world state.

If you are wanting to change the world state back, then simply access the tapestry on DA: Keep website and click on what you want changed and agree to the changes.  Once all changes are made, use the icons on right to lock it and set it as your default downloading world state.
