Major Bug ( Defense Attributes for Main Character are heavily in the negatives )

I play a lv 17 Sword and Shield Warrior Specializing in Champion and Vanguard - that dies the moment he enters a fight then a secondary Champion with **bleep** armor and items comes in and tanks fine...

Old post but may help future players.  

Are you sure you aren't wearing Kitty's Collar? I found it would do that on my created character.  The other companions it would only decrease defense stats by 100%.
