Making a new Hawke in the Keep with same class/gender

I'm trying to make a 2nd world state for a new character in Dragon Age Inquisition. But when I try to make one, it wants me to make a new Hawke, but won't let me choose anything as a template except the Hawke I already use in my first world state. Both Hawkes are female rogues (one is a diplomatic dagger rogue, one is sarcastic bow rogue). How do I get around this? Or do I have to delete the first one?

Same problem with making a new hero for the Origins part. I have 2 playthroughs with female human mages, both very different characters. But it doesn't let me choose another one after I made the first one.

I tried importing characters to try to bypass this, but it won't let me.

Does anyone know how to get around this? I can't be the only person who has 2 of a similar class/hero.

  • Just looked at the keep, they have changed it since last I visited...

Choose heroes and don't really care at this point, just get to the tapestry and allow you to then get to the menu at top left.  When you open the menu you should see option for heroes tab, click it and choose default heroes.  Once you have the default shown, click on one whose class matches your needs, then edit the name and such to get the details you want.  They seemingly have made it harder to custom a new character into the game, which is sad in my book.

  • Did you check the "Default Heroes" box at the top-right of the Tapestry window?  😉

That's the problem. When you make a new hero/Hawke, it replaces that corresponding default option. So, for instance, if you make a female rogue Hawke, then go to make another, the default is gone, replaced with the Hawke you just made.

  • I'm confused.  I thought the problem was that it wouldn't let you create/edit a new Hawke.  Now you're saying something about "replacing" an existing Hawke?

Yes, that is exactly the problem. When I make a new world state, it lets you choose which hero and which Hawke you want to use. You are then directed to a screen with a list of all the defaults to choose from to start with (which you can then edit the name of, etc.). Except that the defaults you've already chosen as templates in the past are already "taken." For example, the first Hawke I made was a female rogue named Robynne. So now, when I go to choose from the list of defaults, all the other ones are available (like male mage, female mage, male rogue, etc.), but the default female rogue is now literally my first character, Robynne (there is no default to use). So if I want to create a new Hawke who is also a female rogue (I made her a bow rogue instead of daggers and her personality is very different), it seems I just have to use Robynne as the template and completely redo her into a new person, thereby deleting Robynne.

I don't understand how to get around this. The same thing happens with the hero from DAO. When I tried to make a 2nd female mage, the only default "female human mage" slot I could choose to begin making the character was taken up by my first female human mage.

I don't understand why my previous characters are taking up the default slots, and therefore making it impossible to create new heroes/Hawkes with similar genders/classes. I can't be the only one who has multiples of similar stuff, can I?

I hope this is making sense. I've attached screenshots. In the first screenshot, Garret Hawke (male mage) is the default, which I don't want, so I find the female rogue, shown in the second screenshot as Robynne (no other default to use for my new character). Notice I have defaults toggled on. (Without it on, there are no heroes to choose from at all.) In the last screenshot, you can see how even when I put in the specific options of "female" and "rogue", it only gives me Robynne. I want to make a new character, not use/change my first one.

Hopefully this has cleared up any confusion. If not, please let me know. Thanks for your time.

I know this is a late reply (internet problems), but I wanted to thank you for checking it out. I thought I was crazy; I couldn't find any info on this problem anywhere. It would make sense if they changed it recently though. Just sad, like you said, that you have to basically delete old characters in order to add new ones. Hopefully they'll fix this in the future (wishful thinking). Thanks again.
