Manual reset of Dragon Age Inquisition settings

So after installing the game, I went into option and changed the game settings to use a gamepad. Now the game won't recognized my xbox controller, or register any buttons being clicked from my keyboard and mouse at all.

I have already redownloaded and installed the drivers for the controller, and uninstalled and reinstalled the game to see if that would reset the settings and it's still not working.

Hey, navigate to My documents\BioWare\Dragon Age Inquisition\Save and delete ProfileOptions_profile. Then when you restart you'll be reset to default.

As for your issue, can you make sure that the pad is plugged in and detected before re-initialising DAI, and see if you encounter the same issue again?

Actually I solved it now, after reading through another thread of someone having a similuar problem I found that, like him, my keyboard was also counted as a gamepad, after unplugging my keyboard it started working.

Thanks. I'm curious, was yours a razer too? Or a different gamepad? This info will help to assist other players who might see similar issues in the future.

My keyboard is a razer deathstalker ultimate, my gamepad is a standard wired xbox controller.

That is good to know, I had the same exact problem last night with my Razer Deathwidow keyboard and an official Microsoft  Xbox 360 PC controller.  I wonder if Razer is the problem since Dark Souls gave me the same problem if I had my Nostromo and Controller plugged in at the same time.

After doing a little digging, it seems that the Windows drivers for gamepad is actually recognizing my keyboard as a gamepad and but still having it function as a keyboard. While this hasn't been a problem in the past with games like Skyrim and FFXIV, I have incountered others, like Tera Online, where the game wouldn't recognize the controller even though it was plugged in and working. This could very well be the issue though, the game is recognizing the keyboard as a controller, but the keyboard is incappable of inputting the commands that a controller would.

I was able to get my game pad to work by unplugging my Razer Nostromo which was somehow conflicting with the gamepad cause it not to be recognized. I had this same exact problem with Dark Souls but no other game.
  • Thank you! I was pulling what little hair I have left out trying to figure out why the Xbox controller was working with DA:I on one computer but not the other. Unplugging the Nostromo did the trick (though the Nostromo and controller on my main system seem to co-habitate just fine; weird).

Ok, so I know this has been dead for a good bit of time now, but I figured I should at least share a bit of a work around I found to this issue. (Though most people have problem figured this out already) Before you start the game up, unplug your keyboard, as the game starts up it will recognize the controller as the gamepad, at which point you can then safely plug your keyboard back in. The game will then recognize the use of the controller as the gamepad, and not mistake your keyboard as one.
