Multiplayer in a Future Dragon Age Game

Dear devs,

The multiplayer in Inquisition is really fun. I was disappointed when I heard that Dreadwolf won’t be having multiplayer and co-op. I get that multiplayer isn’t popular but why not make it optional in story mode? Plus the co-op in Inquisition implemented into the game? If not. I hope that thid idea will be added in a future Dragon age game. Because it’s always fun to play it with friends and the co-op in Inquisition is proof to that. 😊

  • As of now, no info on what features have been announced for Dreadwolf. Hopefully, we hear more on the features, specs etc soon. That way we can all get prepared for the next adventure!

Yeah! Too bad there are so few new games with co-op: divinity one and two, baldurs gate 3 and Solasta. These are the only ones I remember.

    As for the new

Dragon Age, I have hope, but not so much.

I remember they saying it would be solo after Anthem's failure (or some other EA game I can't recall).

But this is so out of touch. We aren't asking for a live service, but for a co-op game.

Also, making it solo is not a recipe for success, as seen on Cyberpunk launch, golum, king Kong and so many other solo only games that are simply bad

Games are rougher now than they used to be. You have a game created, social media goes both left and right, changes are made, and players always want one thing or another. Years ago it used to be just, the game was created, updates were pushed, and bugs happened. Not a lot of live services

Take the AC series. Technically live service, but all of what you purchase are cosmetics. Past a few updates not much more happens other than possible DLC. There is a sentiment that Live Service games have to be one way or another and it gets a negative sentiment.

I was never big on PVP but I did like co-op. I played ME and DA co-op quite often. A co-op game would technically be a live service because it requires constant updates from dev teams.

The harder part from our end is that while those games did have issues, a lot of that isn't development-related. It is stakeholders, marketing, etc. If there is a high demand for a product, that product gets pushed out quicker. We have seen that with many titles over the years.

In an RPG it's definitely not common. I think with Divinity Original Sin and Baldur's Gate 3 it worked because no one in your party is more important than the others. With Dragon Age, you're THE Hero of Ferelden, or THE Champion of Kirkwall, or THE Herald of Andraste, but it's very clear there's one central hero with a group of tagalongs. I think it's harder to structure a co-op mode around that.

In the Divinity series it's game dependent. In Divine Divinity the story is centered around a single hero, so there's no co-op. In Divinity II you're THE Dragon Knight, so no co-op. With the Original Sin subseries, all characters are on equal footing so it makes a lot more sense to have co-op.

Story-wise it could have worked in Dragon Age: Origins, since you could have just had a second player who is also a Grey Warden, but there's only one Hawke and only one leader of the Inquisition.

I havent played Divinity in a hot minute. I have BG3 downloaded and I have played it a bit but I get so sidetracked. With DA though, I agree. You are THE Hero, so it does work. One of the main issues I have is that they want to toss MP in a lot of games that should not have it. Co-op is fine in most cases, but should not be the focus of the game.

However, if you look at the trend of gaming, a lot of series are pushing the co-op experience because they are pushing the engagement of gamers, social media, and the whole "let's play together". The industry is heavily focused on player engagement. Playing, chatting, streaming with friends, etc.

I would love to see a co-op happen again like in DAI but that, IMO starts the whole live service thing that people do not like.

Hmm... I don't know about that. I really felt there was a main character in Baldurs Gate 3, which is definitely the one the host creates. You can even finish the game solo if you want, without party members.

Regardless, other games that had one main protagonist had co-op as well, like Halo, which was always praised by its story.

There is always a way to do co-op if the company knows how to make it.

Divinity is the same: your character is the main one and the story revolves around him. In all Larians recent games, the host is the main character and the most important one, but they give you the opportunity to share that story with a friend because those guys are great at making co-op RPG games.

Actually, this is the first time I've seen someone saying Divinity and Baldurs Gate didn't have a main character 😅

Soloing BG3 to me seems like something I want to test out but after playing DA for so long, would be hard. If you are an avid RPG player, it may be easy but would that not take away from the experience?

Halo's story was always praised and played for many hours of. The co-op there was incredibly fun. Back then, we didn't care as much for graphics, FPS, etc when we played those co-op games, We just wanted to have fun, and a lot of what games are now, are based on players wanting ABC added or changed. With technology changing so do expectations of movies and games.

You're not wrong. There is a way to. There are some games I never understood why there was one, but I always thought it was cool to have it in there.

I remember Lucian being the main character protagonist in Divinity but when I played I kind of pushed the main character thing aside and just ran through missions. BG3 through, as it isn't directly related to BG2, your character is the main one, so it has to have one.
