It's not a mistake. They removed the amulets on purpose because of an exploit. Now you may ask "Why the hell would they be concerned about exploits in a single player game?". I have no answer to that.
I guess because they don't want you cheating in single player? After all, if you are playing the game the way you want to play, then how can you be playing the game the way they want you to play it? And if you are not playing the game the way they want you to play it, then how can you be experiencing it the way they want you to experience it?
