No visible text on main menu

Make sure that in the Nvidia control panel under 'manage 3D settings' the game is set to use the Nvidia GPU. Otherwise the game may be running on your integrated graphics.
I made sure of that quite a while ago. Thanks to low frame rates in other games, I figured out that by default my default gpu was the integrated gpu, but I changed that. It is most certainly running off the Nvidia card.
