(PC) After changing settings Inquisition won't launch

Recently I decided to replay Inquisition for the first time since things had switched over to the EA app instead of the Origin client and I've had no problems with it. The only thing that I noticed was that after the switch from Origin to EA, all of my in-game settings were back to default (such as the subtitles being shut off when I always have them on, etc.) so I quickly set most things back to how I like them and had been playing that way for a while.

But the last time I played (which was about a week ago), I noticed a couple of small graphics issues that I remember being in my game before. It wasn't some big, game-breaking issue, more like a small cosmetic thing that I could just as easily ignore, but I remembered that before the switch to the EA app I had my graphics set so that the issue wasn't as noticeable so, like an idiot, I decided to go to my graphics settings in-game and change some things around. I based these changes solely on my memory of how they were before and my memory is...well, pretty shoddy at best and definitely not reliable. At the time though I, for whatever reason, thought I'd gotten the settings back to where they had been...or at least somewhere close to it, and I went back to playing my game until it froze a few minutes later. I'd been playing for several hours and it wasn't unheard of for it to freeze or crash sometimes when I'd been playing for a long time, so I didn't think too much of it until I closed out of it with the task manager, gave my computer a while to rest, and then tried to start it back up so I could finish what I had been doing before I went to bed for the night.

That was when it first refused to launch, and it has without fail every time I've tried to open it since, always giving this error:

DirectX function " device->CreateTexture1D( &texDesc1d,desc.subResourceCount != 0 ? reinterpret_cast <const D3D11_SUBRESOURCE_DATA*>(desc.subResourceData) : 0,&texture->m_texture1d)" failed with E_INVALIDARG ("An invalid parameter was passed to the returning function."). GPU: "NVIDIA NVS 5100M", Driver:34201

I've tried using the "Repair" option through the EA app thinking that it would reset all of the settings back to defaults and fix what I'd messed up that way, but it didn't actually seem to do anything in that regard since my game still won't work. And I'm not really sure if this is relevant or makes a difference, but I did buy and install Inquisition through Origin but I haven't ever had any issues with either Origin or the EA app specifically. If I open the app separately from the game and it functions completely fine.

And yes, I absolutely know that I screwed myself over here because, again, I was an idiot and messed around with settings that I probably set completely wrong for what my PC is actually able to handle...but since I can't even get the game to launch, I can't get back into the settings menu in-game to fix my mistake. Does anyone know of a way that I might be able to fix them without being in-game or having any other ideas on how to fix the problem?

  • Find your save folder and then find the profile options files and delete them.  The game should recreate them on first launch and it will revert all settings back to default.  Save folder should be in your My documents folder, then Bioware, then Dragon age Inquisition, and finally save.

    @mcsupersport I'm not all that tech savvy so I definitely wouldn't have thought or even known to do this, but it worked like a charm! I was able to launch and load my game like nothing had ever happened.
    I had to reset my settings to where I like them again (of course), but I made sure to stay away from the graphics settings this time lol.

    Thank you so much for not only supplying such a simple and straight-forward fix, but also doing it so quickly! I was expecting that I might have to wait for a few days before I heard anything back so this was definitely a nice surprise. ^-^

    Once again, thank you for your help and happy gaming!
