PC: Audio Glitches making game uplayable
Hey folks,
Let me explain my issue and the steps I have taken to try and correct it. It is somewhat unique I think and it's hard to google due to the nature of it.
PC Specs:
Windows 8.1 x64 Pro & Windows 7 x64 Pro (I do clean wipes and switch between as needed, especially when trying to troubleshoot problems like this. I never carry over any data except the occasional save game file via usb)
Intel Core i7 950 @ 3.06ghz (Default Clock)
6GB DDR3 (3x2GB In Triple Channel DIMMs)
eVGA x58 Classified MB
eVGA Geforce GTX 680 (Use default clocks and 110/480 OC via evga precision x when needed)
Logitech Z-5 Speakers (USB)
Realtek Onboard Audio (Currently Disabled via BIOS, though have enabled and tested this issue with it while completely unplugging the aforementioned usb speakers and the problem DOES reproduce, indicating software not hardware).
Problem description:
While playing Dragon Age Inquisition. I get audio cut outs, usually associated with on screen events. The more going on, the more severe the cut outs. Now the cut outs are not complete, they seem to only effect certain channels. For example, voices and dialogue never cuts out, while combat sounds frequently do, and atmospheric sounds cut out most often. A character may be talking and while they are talking the wind sounds will start and stop and start and stop for example. If I cast a spell or enter combat in game, sometimes the combat sounds will cut out nearly entirely and the occasional static "puff" occurs. It is almost as if the audio is unable to keep up with the on screen events.
Troubleshooting attempts include complete change of OS w/ clean wipes, full updates latest drivers, driver rollbacks, different soundcards tested including one on board, and 2 usb, including a headset. The problem reproduces constantly without fail.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? If this was any other game, I would shrug it off and play something else, but this is Dragon Age Inqusition! I must fix this! =)
