PC shuts down while playing

I just installed the game, and it ran great for about 30 minutes.  Suddenly, it completely shut down my system.  I have never experienced this issue with any other game.  I have been reading that others are experiencing the same issue, noting exceptionally high CPU temperatures.  My system is as follows:

Intel i7 2600K @3.6ghz

16 Gigs of ddr3 

GTX 780

Windows 7 64

800W PSU

Im getting this too. I thought my CPU was overheating with the stock cooling as it was reaching high 70s. I replaced the it with a much better one and now it doesn't even reach 60c. However, it still restarts my computer occasionally, usually when loading a zone.

Since this game is quite hungry for both CPU and GPU performance, then make sure that your computer rig does have good build-quality power supply unit, which can withstand power supply requirements. 600-850 Watts on paper looks solid, but if it is low-end PSU from manufacturers like Airen, Allied, ColorSit, Corsair VS (only VS line from this manufacturer), EuroCase, Evolveo, HEDY, Jersey, KME, LC Power, Mercury, Micase, ModeCom, RedStar, TakeME, Trust, Whitenergy, Xilence - then you can be almost sure, that PSU is to blame.

Of course, there might be things like overheating (CPU / GPU), so I would suggest to check these first, but if you got PSU from manufactured listed above... throw it from the window and buy quality PSU - Corsair CX is in my opinion good entry level PSU.

If none of this is to blame, then I guess the issue is elsewhere.

I just plugged my computer directly into the wall instead of the power strip in case that helps.

Also, I had cleaned out my computer of dust recently, but then I remembered that the way my case is configured the PSU fan faces down out the bottom of the case (it sits on wheels so there's air flow underneath). I turned the case on it's side and saw that i did miss cleaning that fan, and it had quite a bit of fuzz and cat hair on it. Hopefully it was that the PSU was overheating because of the dust. I cleaned that out, and am going to test again shortly.

Yes, a Corsair, almost all of them, should be a good choice.  As it happens, I have no experience with any "VS" models from that brand.  As a power supply overheats, the output it generates goes down, and when there is insufficient amperage for the CPU, the system cannot keep going, it HAS to stop. 

These days, it is far more commpn for the GPU to quit first, before the CPU, and you'll then see the "no signal" warning from the display screen. 

Just tried again and it shut down again. No idea why. 

I loaded my last save in Val Royeau, and went to do Sera's recruitment mission. Shut down while loading it, just like the last two times.

It shuts down every time I load that mission. It's not like I even gave the computer time to build up heat. I had just started the game less than a minute before.

I've been running speedfan to monitor temps and they're fine. I've repaired the game.

I'm stumped.

Uninstalled and reinstalled my video card drivers. Suddenly no crashes and I zoned several times. I don't know if it's coincidence or that was the problem.

Well, my internet device broke while downloading DA:I. Now I have to use my older, slower connection. So yeah. Great.

your powersupply is not beefy enough to run your system.

500-550w is for your GPU alone. the rest is for cpu, ssd/hdd. mobo, fans, etc.

your cpu might require 120-130w by itself for optimal performance.

you definitely need to upgrade your PSU for your build.

I would suggest at the very least 800-900w, if not 1000w.

I currently have a 900w, and it isn't enough....

although I don't have problems with shutting down or restarting, I still need to 

upgrade my own PSU so as not to bottleneck the GPUs performance due to power consumption.

It is not the Wattage that is quite so important, but rather the amperage available on the various output lines that a power supply provides.  Higher total Watts is just another way of saying a lot of amperage is available, and the BRAND name of the PSU counts HEAVILY.
