Possible Bug - Can't activate artifact

Similar to other posts on the topic, but for me more widespread.

My first playthrough was as a male human rogue.  The artifacts responded normally and Solas gave approval.  This second playthrough is as a female elven mage.  ALL the artifacts are inert.  They are there, they look like artifacts except for the glowing animation idle conspicuously missing, but they are just lumps of unknown elven metal :-)  Solas ignores them as well.

Any sugggestions/feedback/hints?

Cheers

  • It isn't the templar one, there is a elf standing outside a cave in the hinterlands, fighting demons and talks about the veil, if you agree to let her come with you she follows you inside the cave and after killing demons inside you find a artifact and she finds a necklace, which Solas can talk her into giving you which gives him a skillpoint.

Can't remember for sure, but I think it is in the east souch east area.

  • I THINK you have to find a quest in the Hinterlands, the one with an Elf lady out front of a cave fighting demons to activate the usage of the artifacts.

I was hopeful and excited - this was a questling I had not done in the current playthrough.  So, I searched for and found the dead templar, took the phylactra to Enchantress Ellandra at the Crossroads, recruited her into the Inquisition, and went and checked some artifacts .....

..... no joy.  Still hunks of inert Elven metal.

And BTW, I'm playing on the PC platform, up-to-date patch installed.

Indeed Eureka!  The required quest is "Measuring the Veil" [Inner Circle, Solas]  that is required before any other artifacts can be activated.

    Thanks for your help!

Not true.  I have played the game over 45 times, and never had a problem. This time the Elven artifacts aren't even showing up.  i confirmed that I did not forget to do Measuring The Veil, and I did not, but no artifacts, either on the map (where they normally appear as question marks), or in their location in-game. The only one which did show up, was that one in Measuring The Veil, which shows in my journal as a completed quest.  Did all the usual things; loaded a previous save, verified the files, and re-installed the game (twice); didn't make any difference.  Having a similar problem with shard around the Mercenary Fortress in the Hinterlands.  None of the artifacts show up on the map or in their their in-game locations, even though they  show through the ocularum.  All the rest of the shards both in the Hinterlands and the other areas appear as usual. Not that it has any bearing, but just for the record, I am running an Intel I9-13900K CPU, and Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU.
