Progress Blocked - Continued Crashes in Redcliffe and Winter Palace.

This has been a problem since release.  I can't take two steps in either of these areas without the game crashing.  I've had cutscene crashes that I've been able to find a work around for, either by skipping the dialogue or by changing from full screen to windowed mode but nothing I can do will make the game functional in either of these areas.

I got my first character through Redcliffe to the mages and back out by twenty + saves, reloading every time one step closer to where I needed to go but knowing how long Winter Palace is from having my husband play it there is no way that I can force myself through this area that way.  I can't do too much more in this game I've done almost all the side quests in the areas I have access to.

I have the exact same problem with my PC installation.

If i try to enter the Redcliff Mage village or Winter palace it closes the application (game). No warning, no error message and no DirectX problem message. It's as if i closed the application normally. Just out to the desktop and nothing.

For the Winter Palace there is no work around that i have found. As soon as i press teleport inside the War room it kicks me back out to my desktop. War room->Party selection->Loading screen with cards->Black loading screen->Desktop.

just set your settings temporarily to the lowest and the game doesnt crash any more!

  • Necroing this old post just in case others come across it again in future.

however I can confirm that dropping the resolution down from an ultrawide resolution (5120x1440 or 3840x1080) down to 2560x1440 or 1920x1080 enabled me to get into Redcliff without the crash.

Once inside Redcliff for a few seconds (assuming once the assets have loaded in) I was able to swap back to the ultrawide resolution without issue.

Hopefully this helps someone else revisiting DA:I

  • I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.
