PS4 Dual Shock Controller Problems

I already own vanilla Dragon Age Inquisition on the PlayStation, but I decided to buy the Game of the Year edition for PC.

I was in the mood for another playthrough with all the added bells and whistles since I've last played it back on the PS4 back in 2014.

I played the game for hours last night for the first time using my PS4 dual shock controller and it worked beautifully with the DS4 windows driver. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

This morning, I booted up the game and I get the PRESS START problem at the main game screen where nothing works to go further (keyboard, mouse nor the controller).

So, I did some research over the internet, these forums and google and I managed to rectify the problem by setting the gamepad to 0 (ProfileOptions_profile file with notepad).

Great, that gets the keyboard and mouse going again and I can go further into the game. However, as soon as I go to the gameplay options and select game pad and the controls completely stop working and I can do nothing else (the mouse, keyboard and controller do not function). Either that, or the game remains operational with the keyboard and mouse despite my selection of the gamepad in the control options.

Also, if I re-boot the game, the PRESS START problem returns and you again have to exit the game and again manipulate the ProfileOptions_profile file with notepad.

I would really like to have my controller function as playing the game with the keyboard and mouse is very unwieldly.

Is there anyway to get the controller working again and to get by the main game screen freeze problem?

Thank you in advance.

  •     Unfortunately I do not know how to fix your PS4 controller issue. From what I gather, and correct me if I am mistaken, you have to use a third party program to use the PS4. My question is, have you checked if it could be an issue with the program you use? If the controller doesn't work with any of your other games, that could be the source of your issue. I would look into that if you haven't already.

Alternatively, if you cant get your PS4 controller working again, you could try using a Xbox One controller. I currently use an off brand Xbox One controller with my PC, and have had no issues with any of my games. I don't know about earlier windows version, but windows 10 has built in compatibility with Xbox controllers, so I do not need to use a third party program.  If I'm not mistaken Wal-Mart sells an off brand called Rock Candy or only 20 or so dollars. I used to use them with my Xbox, and I had no issues with them.

I think that's what @Pepitte112  means with the "DS4 Windows driver". It interprets the DualShock 4 as an Xbox controller.

Could you check if the controller is properly recognized in the Windows control panel? Go to the Windows control panel > Hardware and sound -> Devices and printers. Then right click the "Xbox 360" controller, go to 'game controller settings'  and click 'properties'. You can then press some buttons to see if anything lights up.

  • I would like to thank you both for offering to help and giving my problem some attention.

Looks like EA made some good money off of me because I just purchased the DLC off the PS4 online store. I pretty much bought this game twice thanks to this nonsense.

I even bought an XBOX one controller and I have had the same damn issues even when trying everything out there on the internet and these very forums. How the hell does one of the biggest gaming companies in existence release a game that can't even get a controller working right? Just pathetic... this should've been cleaned up with a quick fix or a patch eons ago.

Why aren't EA representatives dealing with these problems and questions?

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo EA! Looks like you guys made another profit. I guess they've already made their nut 10 times over on this game to the point where they don't care about dealing with any performance issues. I keep kicking myself for going through and buying this for PC even knowing that it would be a huge pain in the balls just from reading all the heavily documented issues with the PC version (I can just imagine myself putting my foot through my monitor when having to deal with another issue after spending a week of investigation, experimentation and intensive research just to get the controller working). Never again.

It's really unfortunate that Bioware is occupied by this corporate machine... I really hate giving my money to this entity just to have access to Bioware's content.

It is unfortunate that you are still unable to get it to work. I am sorry I couldn't be of more help.
