Question about Authorizing/Acquiring DA2 DLC

So for clarity - I own Dragon Age 2 (and the Black Emporium).  But I do not think I actually purchased any other DLC's.  For some reason, I thought EA was giving them for free via their DLC for old games site where you can download and install them, but when I do that, it mentions (Unauthorized).

In theory - this makes sense if you are supposed to purchase them.  So I have 2 questions:

  1. Does EA only give you the option to download/install the DLC, but you in fact still need proof of purchasing the DLC in order to play it?
  2. Are there any options for buying the DLC that don't include purchasing DA2: Ultimate Edition? (Which seems to be the only solution I've seen offered).
  • yuag For this one, these games were updated a while ago that should allow players to download and install the DLC and other content when the base game was updated. With some situations like this, if it does not allow you to, it is because of the base game you have wont allow it to. You would have to purchase an edition that had the content with it. I have verified these issues with the team. There isnt a way to change that on an account without owning an edition that provides the DLC.

It is showing up in the EA App (I purchased it i think through Gamers Gate a very very long time ago.  It is listed as "Standard Edition". I'm aware this isn't the "Ultimate Edition."  My question is - did EA make the DLC 'available' for free or did they only offer the ability to download it, but you still need the 'Ultimate Edition' to (pun) ultimately play it?

This is confusing. Is it free or not? On one hand EA lets you 'download' the DLC, but not install it? Who is this for? If it is EA's intention to release the DLC for free, why make it so difficult and simply not upgrade everyone to Ultimate (so every edition on the EA app is Ultimate). This would solve the problem once and for all.

I agree but I think I can help.  I suspect in years past, there was a mechanism to buy and purchase the DLC.  Over the years, the ability to buy individual DLC's was lost, but EA gave you the opportunity to 'download' the DLC and somehow show you previously purchased it and it was later authorized.

In my scenario, I never purchased the DLC, so when I downloaded it, it somehow knew I had not yet paid for it.

To your comment, I found an "Ultimate" edition license that I then purchased, applied that to my account, and was able to then access the DLC features.

That actually makes sense — it’s a bit like how certain creators, such as salice rose fapello, manage exclusive content access where prior authorization or purchase determines what you can unlock later.
