Re: Crashing on Startup

@xx_mistraven_xx Sounds like you might have a different issue than the others on this thread, the AVG issue doesn't cause lag or crashing mid-game. It could possibly be the reason the game isn't starting now (though, as DarkAmaranth said, this would be the first time we're seeing it on an AMD GPU), so if you use AVG it's worth trying adding an exception or temporarily disabling it.

Do you have the game set to use Mantle or DX11? Sometimes switching that setting can help. Also, with AMD cards it sometimes helps to turn off the Shader Cache for the game in Radeon Settings (Radeon Settings > Gaming > Dragon Age Inquisition > Profile Graphics, you'll find the shader cache setting in there).
If you can't get the game to load, try deleting the ProfileOptions_profile file from My Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age Inquisition > Saves. This will reset the graphics options for the game, so if it's one of those causing an issue, hopefully it will let the game load.

Have you checked if there are any new drivers for your GPU? If there are, be sure to do a clean install (instructions in Fred_vps post at the bottom of this sticky).

I had the same crashing problem and indeed AVG is the issue.

Tried disabling AVG, that did it.  Thanks!

  • What worked for me was I made an exception for DAI in my anti virus instead of disabling it. Then ran it in window mode. Before it crashes to desktop I click on my desktop stopping it. I think this is due to the game trying to load too much at once. This way it has time to slow it's self down and load. It'll take longer to load doing this but for me it at least loads. Not sure if this will work for others but it does for me and I wanted to share. 🙂
If you don't have it in window mode yet, delete your save folder and load it, make it window mode, close game then go to recycling bin and restore your saves and give this a try.

Right now, the defective Geforce driver, # 376.33 has shot to the top of the problem list.  Get the Hot Fix driver, # 376.60, and choose the CLEAN Install option for it.

I was having the same issue, and it seems the common denominator is AV software. I was running Avast! AV, choose to disable the shields for 10 minutes, and the game booted up just fine.

I had disabled Avast temporarily before thinking that would fix it but it didn't. Didn't think making an exclusion to dragon age inquisition would make a difference but it did! So you have to specifically make an exclusion with your AV (Avast and AVG tend to be problem for most people it seems) instead of just disabling it.

  • I confirm that Avast is the cause for crashing at startup on Windows 10.

Just disable temporaly Avast and the game will lauch.
