Re: DA: Origins, UE - Crashing

I looked at the dxdiag, but nothing jumps out. I'll send this to some other people and see if they have any ideas.

Right now, I can only offer the standard advice. If you haven't already, try a clean boot. This will disable unnecessary third party software that sometimes interferes with the game.

While Dragon Age Origins gets a little crashy on modern hardware, this is a bit excessive.

A Clean Boot is definitely a good step. I wonder if there was any new software you installed or updated around the time this started to happen.

Also, if the Clean Boot doesn't help, how exactly does it crash?

@EA_David It depends. Sometimes, it crashes while the game is loading. I'll see the screen where I choose to start a new game or continue the one I'm on.. the 'logging in' screen. Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I get past that and it loads me into Lothering. Then, soon as I start to fight the bandits (on one side behind the inn) or the villagers (behind the hill on Sten's cage side), we start the fight. It pauses, I press the space bar to unpause the battle and it starts again, then freezes and crashes to the desktop.

It's when you launch Windows with as few background programs as possible. All the info is in the help page I linked to.

Thanks, that's great to hear. The next step is to gradually turn on your usual programs until you can identify whichever is interfering with Dragon Age, so you know to disable that when you want to play.

@EA_David I will definitely do that. For the moment, the only thing it's doing that's weird is, after I kill something, the dead body becomes a red rectangle that, sometimes, flashes. But I can totally live with that!!
