Re: DA:I Freezing during a cutscene

dont run any mods during the cutscene as they seem to be causing this problem. whenever you run the manager it updates the version so you may need to increase it to higher than 8 so maybe 11 or 12 as long as its higher than what your save expects. I reactivated my mods after the scene with no problems

if this doesn't work then I don't know what else you could try.

also you will probably have to re re install

  • To; dethnitebob,

Sorry for not posting sooner. It would have saved you having to reply.

I did solve the issue. But do want to point out that this was happening with no DLC or custom content. All I had merged into the patch were texture files.

What I did to solve issue.

    1) Took patched folder and moved to merged folder in root DAI folder.

    2) Had a clean updated zipped patch folder on ext. drive. Unpacked it to DAI update folder.

    3) Open MTF file in notepad and changed version to 10.

    4) Launched DAI and loaded saved game. When I got to point where it had been freezing. It froze again. This is with NO mods installed. Just a clean updated patch.

    5) Based on all the reading I've done pertaining to this, I relaunched the game, loaded the save. But this time before entering the ballroom, I removed all weapons and armor from Inquisitor and companions, then put formal wear back on entire party. Then went into ballroom.

The scene play out completely, no freeze. All the way to Skyhold.

My conclusion: Must be wearing your formal wear before cut scene begins. Conclusion based on fact that I was running a clean updated patch. Nothing added, no mods, and it still froze. But with same clean patch and formal wear it worked fine. The only difference with wearing armor or wearing formal wear.

If others are having this issue even after trying the other suggestions here, then try this. Hopefully it helps. Thank you dethnitebob for your prompt reply.

Problem solved, now on to kill the next bug.

I was having the same issue, came across this board. I am using mods to play and tried all the fixes above, except re-installing the game. Here is what worked for me.

    1) In my Update folder I have a "Patch Original" folder that has an unmodified patch and the "Patch" folder which has my merged and modded patch. I deleted the original patch and moved my modded "Patch" folder out of the Update folder. I had no Patch folders in my "Update" folder after this.

    2) Using the Origin control panel/tool, I right clicked Inquisition and selected "Repair Game." This took about 10 minutes to run.

    3) Re-loaded game with original patch which had just been repaired, loaded my save. (I had unequipped all my gear and just had Formal Attire on, not sure if this helped. I had also altered my package.mft version. This meant when I loaded, I had to go back and change the newly downloaded package.mft version to higher than what it was with my save that was freezing. I was getting an error saying that save version was greater than current patch or something like that. Opened package.mft in notepad, changed it to what it was with the save game and game started no problem.)

    4) Completed the cut-scene with Morrigan and my game did not freeze.

    5) Back in Skyhold, saved the game again. Closed down the game.

    6) Saved newly downloaded "Patch" folder as "Patch Original." Moved my modded "Patch" folder back into the Update folder.

    7) Started game back up, mods were installed and I was able to resume game.

    Hope this helps others.
