Re: Dragon Age Inquisition Loading Screen Freeze

So let me see if I am understanding.....

You have one character who has all their saves corrupted or messed up and will not load.

You have other characters that will load fine and let you play the game.

You have tried many fixes but so far, you are stuck with different characters and new characters working but the one you want is bad.

1)  Delete the profileoptions and profileoptions_options files in your game save folder.  They will recreate so don't worry, but it will reset all ingame options to factory default.

2)  Are you currently using Mantle instead of DirectX?  Step one should take you back to DirectX...but if you happen to be using DirectX try Mantle...

3)  Try running DAI and Origin in Compatibility mode for Win7(64bit).

4)  Try loading up a different character on a save that works, then while in that character load a save from the one you want....I have seen issues with loading in a character from load screen, but not from another, usually when the save is in dlc material, but you never know.

5)  Make sure you have all the dlc downloaded and nothing has gotten unchecked or something....I know you have repaired like crazy and this shouldn't be an issue...but check anyway.

6)  Make sure you have exceptions for Origin, Origin games and DAI saves folder in your antivirus....even if it is only windows defender.

7)  Disable windows defender for a short time and any other firewall or Anti-virus program you happen to be running.

    Evening Mcsupersport.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried all the things you mentioned in your post (some I had already tried but forgot to mention in my first post, so I tried them again.)

None seem to work, actually, switching from DirectX to Mantle made the game freeze for a little while, on the Card Tips screen before getting to the black screen, where it froze completely.

I have added your suggestions to my initial post, and my problem still persists.

It might not be a big deal for some, since it seems that I am able to create a new character and play, but it deters me from doing so, since if the same thing happens again, I will probably not bother with the game any more. And that's a shame, since it seems great, and I recently just bought it - so I'd rather get a fix to my issue, than wasting time should the problem occur again.

I make the assumption that this character and game are unmodded, too, right??  I shouldn't even ask, cause you would have removed or stated that it was modded if you did, I would think after all the effort you put in.

Sorry to hear about the problem persisting, it is odd that the game would wreck one character yet continue to work for the rest...

Have you checked your hard drive that it is on, making sure it is working correctly....maybe you got a bad sector??

I hope someone else smarter than I comes on and is able to give some more suggestions, but keep us posted on your results.

    Evening once more Mcsupersport.

To be honest, I didn't even know you could mod DA:I, so to answer your question, yes, the character is unmodded :-)

I have scanned and fragmented all of my HDDs to make sure none is at fault, and only a storage drive comes up with some minor flaws, but that is overheating when exposed to too much pressure - and that HDD is only used for backup files, no program files associated with that one. Also I would be surprised if that would have been the cause anyway, since I have not experienced an issue like this before, in any of my games, that are located on the same HDD as Origin and DA:I or the location of all my saved games from multiple games.

I will keep an eye on this thread, and I might do some more testing of various possible fixes for my issue. Now you mentioned modding, there might be a fix out there somewhere for this particular issue. I remember having an issue in Fallout 4, where Bethesda didn't come up with a fix until several months later than someone on the nexusmod community, so I might be lucky on this one. I'll check it out when I get around to it.

Also, despite what I stated earlier, I have now started over from scratch, as a simply test to see if it will happen again, and if so, when it happens and why.

I will keep posting my findings in this thread.

    Thanks anyway.

My game started to freeze and crash after the loading screen recently too. I had about 33 hours no problem. Took a break to play smite came back and it wouldn't load my character so I ended up deleting the saves and trying new same error.  It isn't just one character though when I just try a new game it freezes after the 3 cards and crashes. I've updated drivers and all the above options also. If anyone finds a fix that would be awesome.

    Hey, there, @yd15 ,

I found nothing in your DxDiag, nor in your problem description that allows me to make any suggestions, sorry!  However, there's a lot of stuff at the tail end of your report that is part of an "Appcrash Report", which Microsoft issue guides for to OFFICIAL support personnel.  That's not what we are in here.  We're volunteer game players.  I think some of the game advisers will know where to find a copy of the guide to Appcrash contents.
