I'm running a 64-bit OS. I didn't get any errors when running the exes.
I just checked the updates and there was a .NET update, however after installing it I'm still getting the error message

Hi,
I'm having the same trouble with DAI as Steamsing, I've tried all of the steps listed so far including the clean boot.
Like Steamsing I get the following :The error message reads as: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close application" and reinstalling the files. Like steamsing, I have run the DXSETUP.exe and run all the exes for each of the vc redists.
I using a Asus zenbook 64bit with an Nivia GeForce 940M
Any help would be much appreciated
cheers

Also, sometimes I get this error: Resaon code = No licence (0x0003) Other forums have suggested that this was due to a windows update.
Is this true? Anyway around the problem?

OK, 1 last time (hopefully!!)
I have got DAI to work!
I went back to \:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer\directx\redist and run the DXSETUP.exe
Then to C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition\__Installer\vc and run the exes for each of the vc redists.
This time, instead of repairing the installations (where applicable) I removed then reinstalled them and now DAI works - at least as far as character generation.
...fingers crossed
I tried everything that is suggested in the thread, but nothing works.
I did play the game in January last time, and it's May now.
Help?

From the very top, your PC has to meet the requirements. It makes no difference if it "sort of" worked once upon a time, if it was with inadequate hardware support. Next, have you overlooked the newest FAQ stuck atop this forum's index? AVG has "gone rogue"! (All right, I'm kidding, it's just always been a terrible AV choice for a game player and just got a lot worse!)

I think this thread has a good Google ranking, so some people may end up straight in this thread and miss the stickies. That would explain why a new comment was posted in a thread that's now a couple of months old.
I ditched AVG years ago because it took focus away from my Team Fortress 2 window. Source games go nuts when that happens. 2D assets missing or poorly displayed, staircases appearing on the control point, ... It was funny, but also annoying, so I switched to Avast.

I think we can exchange views on AV software and be both topical and of aid to other members. In 35 years of game playing, and 25 years or so of participation on Wide Area networks (started before the 'net went graphical), I've had poor luck with a majority of heavily advertised / promoted AVs, such as MacAfee, Norton, you name it.
I tried AVG several years ago, and it was problematic in many ways from the get-go, while Avast has always worked very well for me, as well.
Once again, while this symptom has one general trigger, AVG, anyone attempting skate below the game's system requirements isn't going to suddenly have support by making this one change.
My apologies, I missed the thread, but found it later. 🙂

So you say you use/d AVG and had issues running Inquisition? I tried the "Trial" version of the game just a few weeks ago and use AVG ( I've used AVG for over 5 yrs and played the past DA games while it was running) I've not seen a problem with any of my games as of yet. However, I recently updated to a newer PC which would handle the hardware needed for this game, and newer version of Windows, not 10 (prior to Trial version), and just t'day purchased the "Game of the Year" version of Inquisition.
So far, so good. My only problem is figuring out how to 'unlock the game'. I paid enough for the game and don't wish to purchase any online gaming with "Access"; if this is what I am required to do to play, I will request a refund for the game and throw Origins in the Recycle Bin. I'm tired of paying out my rear-end for online services that try to bleed you dry for minimal interaction, if any.
So far I'm only at 34% of the DL but thought you could play while it was downloading given I already had the trial. If this is not true and I'm forced to wait 12 + hours, could someone please respond?

@Taravell2015 The AVG issue seems to only be affecting those using NVidia GPUs, and I don't think anyone's tested it with the trial, so that could be unaffected.
As for your question, as far as I'm aware you have to wait for the game to download and install before you can play it. Or at least that was the case when I installed it... back in 2014, so I guess it's possible things have changed. 😛 However, if you have the Game of the Year edition, you'll want to let it finish and then install the DLC (Trespasser in particular) if you want to start the game with all the content you've paid for (Trespasser adds some things which affect the entire game, such as the trials and changes to abilities, along with its main content).
You do not need Origin Access or anything to play the game or multiplayer (I think there is some sort of currency you can purchase for the multiplayer, but having never played the multiplayer portion of the game, I don't know what you can purchase with it). Redeeming/purchasing the game in Origin is all you need to do to 'unlock' the game. 😉

Still that way on PC Niah, play while downloading only works on consoles, PC has to wait for it to install and, it doesn't do that until after it's 100% downloaded. Origin will tell you when it's ready to play. (just installed Origin and the whole DA series for my niece last week. (my thing when they graduate 8th grade is to buy them any one game series they want and, she wanted Dragon Age.)
- Same thing happened to me, and I fixed it by making the DA:I application an exception for my AVG antivirus software. You can do this by opening AVG, going to settings (top right), Advanced Settings, Exceptions (left side options), then searching for your DA:I application launcher (i think it should be in C folder, Program files (x86), Origin Games, Dragon Age Inquisition etc). Good luck!

Hello and Good day, the solution of allowing DAI in as an exception through AVG worked perfectly for me, Thanks 🙂
- Anonymous9 years ago
I had this problem it seem the game clashed with agv so you may wish to follow that line of thought
- Anonymous9 years ago
Hi @old-one-charlie,
Thanks for taking the time to confirm it was AVG. Make sure to add Origin and DAI to the list of exceptions after every update of Origin.

Much appreciated this was my issue as well!
I found this thread through Google. I was having problems with DAI. It would launch, give me a black window that would then go fullscreen. After a few seconds the game closed with no error message. After trying everything in this thread I had no luck. Then I saw someone mentioning AVG giving them problems. I use Avast. I disabled it and then the game instantly worked. Enabling Avast again broke the game again.
I solved it by going to Avast's settings and excluding the whole Dragon Age folder located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Dragon Age Inquisition

THANK YOU!
I read this thread and tried a few of the things EA suggested, basically tried repairing the game, then tried a clean boot as suggested, was going to give it up as a bad job until I read your comment, tried what you suggested and excluded the entire game folder using avast and BEHOLD! The game now runs without instantly crashing with no error message as it was doing before. God knows why this is an issue but I'm glad I came across your comment. Thanks

@SirBattleCat Thanks! Fixed my problem. Cheers!

IT WAS AVG! Thank you kind sir
Not to necro old threads, but with Avast acquiring AVG and the result taking effect with the 17 March 2017 update, Avast now has all the same problems AVG had when it came to running games. In effect: Avast will block Windows from properly accessing the registry (which causes random login and permission errors), and will make games fail to load due to timeouts and locked out files.
In short: The Origin Games folder needs to be excluded in Avast in order to play any games on Origin. It's quite frankly ridiculous, but hopefully with time they'll figure out how to make a program that protects you instead of preventing you from using the computer.
I can confirm that Avast now causes this problem as well. I had no idea what was happening and tried almost every suggestion in this thread. The only thing that worked was adding Origin game folder to Avasts exclusion list. You do this by right clicking the avast icon in your icon tray -> open avast user interface -> settings (bootom left) -> scroll down and exclusions should be near the bottom -> go to your origin folder and copy the file path and paste it/type it in eg: G:\program files (x86)\Origin Games (my games are on G drive) and hopefully your problem is solved.

I tried reinstalling my game, the redistributables, Origin, everything, but this worked like a charm.
BLESS YOU
