Thanks, Thandal - but I believe that a lot of the confusion and repeated questions about this issue comes from the fact that it seems to be difficult to actually get the option to contact the advisor. The buttons outlined in "How to contact a Game Advisor using the new EA Help page" just don't show up for me. I log in to the help center, search for Dragon Age and Contact Us - choose Download/Installation Issues, outline the problem and ultimately get send back to this very forum ... which is extremely silly. I know it's the weekend - but IF nobody is available right now, shouldn't there be a message that says so? Filling out everything just to be directed to the community shouldn't be the way a huge company like EA handles stuff - especially since this is obviously an issue that the community can't really solve. And what about this nonsensical advice from a community manager on page 4 that links to a page about DLC issues and wants you to update the game ... that obviously can't even be installed without a proper key! This appears to be an old and familiar issue ... yet there seem to be a disturbing amount of unresolved issues and signs of poor support judging by the comments in this thread. I'm really hoping that those cases have actually been resolved by now and it's merely a sign of initial confusion and chaos ... REALLY hoping. Is there perhaps a page with official advice on the issue? I'd like to know if there's any trouble for customers that bought their copies from various sources like ebay, retail or amazon (where I ordered mine).

CORRECTION:  Mmmh ... the contact button seems to be working now ... strange. Maybe it was my fault, then ... let's see what happens.

    ...

Not much, as it turns out. I have been unable to get any real response for a few hours. First I was delegated to some sort of chat where I can post messages that are stored in 'my conversations' - but no one replies. Additionally, I had a weird live chat experience with someone who posted an automated welcome message and then left without a further word when I posted my problem. Maybe I noticed too late that someone was available. Maybe it's my unfamiliarity with how EA Help is supposed to handle things and I made some technical mistakes. Maybe it's the weekend ... but for now, nothing worked.

    Hi there,

Generally speaking, if you choose Billing/Purchasing, and then pick the phone option, an EA Game Advisor should be able to swiftly resolve your issue.

You can put something along this line for "tell me about this issue" => Invalid code - Retailer issued 16 digit code, although 20 digit code is required

Now fortunately, from what I can see, you have since managed to get in contact with an advisor who has been able to assist you. Please let me know if there are still any outstanding issues.

    Cheers,

    Nils

    Thank, Eanils.

Well, not quite. I finally managed to get in contact with some very friendly advisors (I accidentally terminated the first chat session by yanking on a cable) who swiftly agreed to help once I explained my problem to them. The whole process to get in touch with them felt a little clunky (as I already wrote, what irked me most was that all the buttons to contact them seem to completely vanish when no one is available - without any message like 'please try again tomorrow from 9-12 am') and time-consuming. I would have loved to have the option to send a good old-fashioned e-mail to support, but that doesn't appear to be an option.

Anyway, I was quite happy and content with everything until I noticed that the new key:

    a) was for a digital download version (no great problem although I'd have prefered to just use my discs)

    b) didn't work (The product code entered is not valid for game activation.)

So the quest goes on. Do I get experience points for this? 😉

Yes, you will receive 100 experience points, which will bring you half way to level 2.

As your resident quest giver, I shall bring forward your next task:

    1. Please slay 10 boars and install the Origin client: https://www.origin.com/download

    2. Skin them and fetch them back to me.

    3. Next start & log into the Origin client and then click on Origin > Redeem Code in the top left corner and put in the replacement code that was sent to your email address. You should then finally be able to download the game (and proceed to level 2).

    Cheers,

    Nils

Thank you Eanils ! Very much! Very much indeed! :D I didn't know that you needed the origin installation - to be honest, it was new to me that EA HAD such a system for their games. Anyway - I should be fine and levelled up by now - so I guess it would be best to but a lot of points in intelligence ... and I think I should aquire patience as a skill. This is probably a very handy talent ... 😉 Anyway - I'll just dump the boars over there, right? Sorry for the mess, but they were quite ferocious. And muddy.

Just out of idle curiosity:  what exactly are you going to do with 10 boars?

By the way, while I was initially worried about the support I must say that I'm quite content now. My thanks to all of you and the helpful posters on this forum. May you always find nice shiny artifacts and chests full of ancient gold coins!

This is beginning to sound reeally silly ... but I didn't get to really try out this key for a while - and I just noticed, that while it indeed IS a working key  ... apparently it's a case of 'Not-The-Ultimate-Edition - Key', meaning it's only for the original game - not the Awakening expansion.

  • @garvelek;  Contact another Game Advisor and explain what happened.  They can (and should) resolve this for you.

I'm not sure if they have to supply you with an additional code, or if they can just add all the UE materials directly to your EA/Origin account for downloading, but either way they can get things sorted.

Thanks, I guess that would indeed the best way to solve this.

    🙂
