Re: No voices during dialogue

Have you tried making the change in your Windows Control Panel -- Sound settings?  (The "wrong" setting there is the most likely cause of the issue if you're hearing the other sounds in the game.)

Below are my settings; 5.1 Surround.  Normally, everything works as expected.  But when I plug in my Bose headphones to the 3.5mm jack on my speakers' EXTERNAL volume control dongle then Windows doesn't know that I don't have a center speaker.  So in that situation any audio it directs to the center speaker is simply dropped.  (I discovered this while playing the original Windows Solitaire. I still heard the shuffling of the deck, but lost the sound of cards moved to the stacks.)  The jack located on the computer itself was already set to "Stereo", so no  problem if I used that one,

Here's the Control Panel item I'm talking about:

Let us know if changing the setting works.  🤓

To the above user, as I said I cannot change the settings for my surround sound headphones, the 'configure' button is greyed out because they have their own program to configure them in, which does not let me change from surround sound. Every other set of earphones or the internal speakers are already stereo.

What brand of headphones are they, what happens if you uninstall them completely, including the special configure program and all associated programs??

Could you post up a DxDiag file(instructions in sticky at top of the forum) so maybe we can look at config of your system a bit....don't know if it will help, but can't hurt.

  • Yeah, given that there are millions of players who don't have any problem hearing the dialogue, this is obviously an issue caused by the "special" software used by those headphones.

@mcsupersport The headphones are the Razer Kraken Pro headphones, so they use Razer Synapse for their settings, not control panel (most options are greyed out in control panel). I uninstalled completely, no change. Here is my DxDiag file.

@ThandalNLyman I'd assume the same, if it weren't for the fact that my normal stereo headphones, and stereo inbuilt speakers don't make the voices work either.

Ahhh... "Synapse" is known to cause several problems with Dragon Age.  (Although I usually hear about them from people using Razor keyboards.)  It must be something to do with that application or the associated hardware drivers.

    Uninstall "Synapse"

    Repair DAI

    Test

If Repair doesn't fix things, then:

    Uninstall DAI

    Reinstall DAI

Let us know how it goes.

Given your hardware specs, I am surprised that the game even plays. You only have an Intel vid chip, not any kind of real dedicated video card, and you have minimum memory. If removing razor program, and reinstalling dai doesn't work, I would suggest either just put on subtitles and ignore it or upgrade your computer and see how the new one works.

Actually, the CPU is poor and slow, the Intel video drivers are two and a half years old, and the RAM is 25% BELOW the minimum.  Complaining about the audio with a low quality tinker toy, or Lego Toy, of a computer,  is just plain silly.

I know my computer is *, the only reason I'm complaining is because it used to run this game fine and can run Skyrim well, if it couldn't run any games I wouldn't bother making a post, but fact is this game used to work

When anything similar to a MIRACLE occurs, allowing junk to pretend, for a time, to be the real thing, no one here at AHQ, nor anyone at EA / Origin, is responsible for bringing the Miracle back again after its magical effects expire, sorry!
