Recruiting Vivienne broken!!

After i went to Val Royeaux i did only get the Arrow scene to recruit Sera.

But there was no trigger to recruit Vivienne and i don't know why,

Even Ghislain area is not on my map nor on the war table.

Does anyone know a code or something to unlock Vivienne this way because i think it's a bug.

I really want Vivienne before changing my main character into a knight enchanter, to test things out

  • Edit:

I found out that i was able to go to Ghislain area on my older save, so it means that it was available at some point but then it just disappeared from the map?

Maybe some quests remove it from the map or something?

The arrow scene and Sera recruitment is nohow connected to recruiting Viv.

    http://www.ign.com/wikis/dragon-age-inquisition/Vivienne

The Imperial Enchanter is triggered somewhat automatically after the first major cut scene in Val Royeaux. As you walk away from the plaza, you'll see a mage who you can talk to. It's not a conversation; he'll talk to you automatically and extend an invitation to a salon, which you can read. Sometimes, just standing close enough to him will trigger the quest regardless.

Once triggered, you'll gain a new temporary location on the world map located just north of Val Royeaux called Ghislain Estate. Travel there, then you'll encounter a couple scenes. At the end of them, you'll be given the chance to bring in Vivienne the mage as a new ally, and the quest will resolve.

I've seen another thread where people mention war tables and whatnot stuff. There is no bug with this recruitment, at least I can't reproduce it in my game.

  • Hey,

I found out that the quest was completed but i didn't get Vivienne?

I don't know anything about a cutscene and stuff 😕

Confirming what he said about pulling a old save and having the estate available...might disappear after u progress to a certain point cuz i pulled a later save about 10 hrs game time after the first one and theres no estate on the map
  • Arrow mission not connected but removes you from area and it's easy to end up not meeting the Messenger.

Now I knew where Vivienne Mission started and Dragon Age Wiki's first LIne

"Vivienne is an Orlesian Mage and personal enchanter and adviser to Empress Celene."

So naturally I expected to Meet her in Val Royeaux. Dragon Age Wiki's states

"Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts is a main quest in Dragon Age: Inquisition in Orlais, involving the assassination plot of Empress Celene I"

Combined, with the fact that, travel to Val Royeaux is unavailable through the War Map.

Leading me to the obvious conclusion that, I will meet Vivienne during Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts.

So imagine my surprise when the Val Royeaux Mage is Morganna and she isn't on my Team either.

Further investigation, led to my discovery that, on pressing World Map, when not at the War Table. Then pressing View on any World Location, unavailable in War Map Mode, actually brings up the Local Map.

Allowing Travel, where and when, the War Table will not.

So I goes straight to Val Royeaux, where the Messenger gives me the Invatation. That's all though. no new World Location appears on my map. The quest is completely broken.

Further checking finds it's actually, Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, that causes the break, before starting this Main Quest, the World Location appears as intended and after Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts it becomes unavailable.

Sure, it's a specific sequence that leads to it, but not an unlikely sequence.

Unlikely or not, it's a naturally created flow of events, that is leading a few of us to it.

It's easily avoided by forcing the Messenger meeting to occur, before any arrows are shot by Sara.

I had almost the exact same experience - the mission "The Imperial Enchanter" doesn't work if received after Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts.

    It goes directly to Completed.

I had a save game - 4 hours old - from before Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts and I was able to get Vivienne.

But it's a really annoying bug; now I have to replay Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts.

  • That's the only option, Go back to before the Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts quest.

I at least had only just done that quest, expecting what ended up being Morrigan to be Vivienne.

The real problem was the War Room will not let you travel to Val Royeaux after the Chantry Mission. I would have gone back if the War Room had let me.

That it didn't implied it could not be done, but it is possible, by using the World Map Button from any Local Map, thats not obvious as it just says View instead of Travel. Then you can actually travel to any Camp or Travel Location, on the Local Map you "View", yes you might actually "View" the Local Map, but that's actually what you do with all Maps but they say Travel, once you know it, it is "obvious", it should be "obvious" before you know it.

It's not explained or obvious, you can do this and it's also very useful, cutting out going to Haven or Skyhold, then the War Room, then to Locations arrival point, before finally Travelling to where you actually want to go.

All these issues would be solved by having the Messenger approach the Player before Sara fires the arrow. Why force one companion meeting event and not the other?

Most follower recruitments will close out and they will be unattainable if you progress through a certain part of the game.  It is slightly different for each follower.

How far along were you from when you noticed the quest was no longer available from the old save?  You must travel to Ghislain and interact with Vivenne after getting the quest from the messenger in Val Royeaux before Adamant and Halamshiral plots are complete.  If both those plots are complete before recruiting Vivienne, she is no longer available and the quest will show in the completed section of your journal.

  • A note to anyone having problems accessing Vivienne's salon through the war table, or getting back to Val Royeaux through the war table. I was only able to do this by going to the world map (not war table screen) and clicking on Val Royeaux until its map was shown and then selecting a point to travel to. From there, Vivienne's salon became available by travelling to the edge of the Val Royeaux map for area transition. As noted by other players, after a certain point this quest will no longer be available, but hopefully this helps some people who haven't reached that point but are struggling to access the salon.
