"Save failed due to insufficient space..." [DA:I PC version]

Is anyone else getting the "Save failed due to insufficient space. Please overwrite or delete an existing save" error during autosaving, manual saving, or even just after changing a setting in the options menu?

Because of this, I can't start the game -- I'd be wasting my time having to redo everything all over again, since I can't save.

Running the PC version of the game, by the way.

  • Never mind, I was actually able to fix this on my own.  My problem was extremely unique and may not apply to any of you.

When I staged my gaming system it had originally set my secondary drive to E.  I wanted it set to D.  So when I  set my secondary drive to D within Management Console my origin redirected files were still set to E... Technically.

Since E was in fact my DVD drive now, it would give the 'Save failed due to insufficient space'

So here's what I did just to make sure my redirected folders were actually on D where they were supposed to be and not E.

I went into my PC registry:

    1. Click Start
    2. Type: regedt32
    3. Click the program regedt32.exe to run the Registry Editor
    4. In the left pane, navigate to:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

You should see the folder paths for Documents, Music, Pictures.. etc.

Mine were still set to the E drive.  I just needed to modify them to point to D instead.

Once I did that everything was fine.

My issue was truly a stupid user error, and no real fault of EA.  However, if any of you staged a system and changed the secondary drive location AFTER the PC was done, this problem could relate to you as well.  Though most likely not.

i know it's late for that but for new users playing on windows 10 , windows defender has  this rasomware protection that denied DAI to read files in the directory if you make the program an exception the game will be fine and your save data will be read again .

Not sure if you found a fix for this problem or not, but something that helped me; My antivirus was blocking my game even though I had allowed it it somehow put it on the block list; so check to see if your game is being blocked by an antivirus to see if that may be the issue.

  • @CLAVARONE this fixed the issue for me. The RansomWare feature is located on the Virus and treat protection screen. For those who need to know.

    Thank you very much.
