(Save) Files are suddenly gone on ps4?

This happened to a friend who doesn't have EA account, but I'm posting here to ask for help since I have no idea how in the world that happened. The game never crashed; she just turned the ps4 off like usual and when she went to load her save this morning, there was nothing! I asked her to make another character (as I read some replies around here saying so), so she could press square and swtich characters to load the previous save (which is the solution for corrupted save files... which apparently is not the case), but there ARE NO PREVIOUS SAVE FILES D: She just hit the 70+ hours milestone last night, but now the game acts as if there's nothing in there. Please help?!

  • I am sorry, I don't know much about consoles as I am a PC gamer, so I didn't try to answer earlier hoping someone more versed in PS4s would have an idea.

My first thought on this is the player profile account got changed.  What I mean, is she has been playing on her account and someone or somehow the account got switched over to say yours or her brothers/sisters account and thus the saves are simply hidden until she logs back into her account on the machine.

Other than that, power cycling, ie turning it off, unplugging and waiting a few minutes before plugging back and restarting it.

Also I have seen a video about rebuilding the data base, using the start button being held and released at certain times to fix some disk/memory issues, but I don't know exactly what it does.  The video claimed it caused the machine to check the hard drive and fix errors, but since I don't own a PS4 I can't check the validity of that claim.  Do your own research and be careful.

Thanks! I don't know what happened, but after I told her to make another save file and look into the ps4's data for both saves, she almost gave up when she saw only the new one there D: After a while, though, and I don't know if she turned it off in the meantime or not, the file was back @_@) I have no idea what happened, but it's there and she made a back-up so as not to lose again. Thank you for the input though! I'll mark it as resolved :D
