Spirit Blade Insta-kill bug??

So, there I'am, playing a Mage knight-enchanter, set up my barriers, all nice and buffed and the moment I hit anything, big, small, weak, dragon, mage, demon - whatever-the-**bleep**-it-is, I get blown up.

Literally.

Blown-up.

Just like that, BOOM.

Could it be a misfired skill combo? The friendly fire option is turned off, I made sure of it, and it just... happens.

Its not game-breaker, just really frustrating; Trying to hit stuff and getting backfired, somehow.

Is it a bug, or just some ill-conceived combo that just happens to, literally, blow me up?

I think it has something to do with one of Varric's traps, or Dorian's walking bomb, because its a very discernible explosion noise and then my hp/barriers just plummet to nothingness.

And it happens only when I use the Spirit Blade, and usually on the first hit, that's kinda of a problem, because the blade is a core skill, and I'm very fond of it.(not to mention I can't switch specializations now, and I liked the Knight-Enchanter very much.)

Normal attacks and other spells don do that, but having that skill on my bar gathering dust is just painful to me.

Is it happening to anyone else, or am I just an unlucky soul, doomed to be blown-up left and right should I, god forbid it, try to get up-close and personal?

Any and every insight is appreciated.

(p.s I looked all over the internetz for spirit-blade related bugs, varric's traps related bugs, random explsoions related bugs and nothing matches it.

It's a distinct explosing noise, a green effect, similar to a spirit healer ressurect and my life completely plummets to 0, the damage numbers don't even show up.)

(P.p.s; I have narrowed it has something to do with the Fade Shield skill, Defending Blade skill and ironycally, nothing to do with explosion-related abilities, I've took out dorian and varric from the party and it still happens. help anyone??) ;-;

  • First thing to try is to remove anyone else in party that can cast traps/walking bomb.  Then go out and play in an area and see if it still happens.  Or go play in an area with just your main character and see if it happens.  If it stops then add back people to see who is doing it, and would be easily the Walking Bomb....in which can turn it off in party AI or just respec him without it.

    Thanks for your insight!

    But as I mentioned before, I removed all explosion related companions on the group and it still happened, but I narrowed it to the defending blade skill, I removed it with that special doo-dad that reset the abilities and, so far it stopped happening, só most likely it was the culprit, if it happens again, well... **bleep**, i'll run out of culprits... ;-;

    But still, thanks for the reply, if you happen to find anything let me know.

    I'm, hopefully, not the only one afflicted by this, what really bugs me is that I just found nothing about it, at all.

    I got the exact same problem. I just encountered it, visiting the hissing wastes, though. I used all the skills i use now for some time.

    This must be some kind of bug, since this blowing-me-up thing does also happen shortly after i killed an opponent. There is a bang-sound and i'm seeing a load of numbers over my head. It looks like my own weapon backfires with all the damage I afflicted before..

    This is really annoying!

    Can you check your items(especially rings and weapons) for any passives with an on-hit proc? Try toggling out any items with such procs and test to see if the issue reoccurs.

    I suspect this is a misfiring passive, but it's hard to be certain without more testing. If you're on PC I'd like to get a copy of one of your affected save files too if possible.

    Thanks.

    Same here. It only happened after I upgraded spirit blade to defending blade. It should send "a shockwave of energy back at the attacker" but it instead it insta kills either me or one of my companions (especially Cole). So it ONLY creates friendly fire. Also, I had no items with specific effect "on hit" when it happened. I got it at lvl 16, during the fade mission.

    I hate to bring back a month-old post, but I am encountering the exact same bug and managed to personally narrow it down to the Veiled Riposte talent. I had been fine until I took that, then all of a sudden, I started blowing up immediately upon popping into the midst of a pack of enemies.

    Took off Veiled Riposte and I'm right as rain and hacking people to pieces again with my magic death-sword-from-hell. Kinda sucks, since 20% reflected damage is kind of nice, but I'll live without it... in more meanings than one.

    EDIT: It seems that was only half the problem. The previous assertion that Defending Blade was trigger the self-destruct is also correct. It seems neither function quite as they should.
