[Steam] Dragon Age II Activation Error on Launch

I'm having trouble playing Dragon Age 2, this is the second time I've had this issue.

I purchased the game and the DLC on Steam but every time I open the game it asks me to activate the game on my Origin Account. When I sign in to the Origin account, it says it cannot activate despite it being the same account that is linked to my Steam account.

If I view the game on the EA app I can launch the game to the same end, but it also still gives me the option to purchase the game, even though I have already purchased it via Steam. I have tried reinstalling the game, the EA app, verifying the integrity of the game files via Steam and nothing appears to be working.

  • Hey, @Ebellz This happens a lot with many older titles. If the EA account and the Steam account are linked correctly, try the following:

    Delete EA License Files:

    • Make sure the EA app is closed.
    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time.
    • Type or copy and paste "%ProgramData%\Electronic Arts\EA Services" (without the quotes) into the new Window > ENTER.
    • Enable View Hidden Files and Folders
    • Delete all files in the "License" folder.

    Please clear your temp files:

    • Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time
    • Into the new window, type or copy & paste: "%temp%" (Without the quotes.) > hit "ENTER".
    • Your Windows Explorer should have brought you to the "C:\Users\>your user name<\AppData\Local\Temp" folder. > Delete all files and folders in it.
    • (If some files or folders can't be deleted, reboot and try again.)

The game is trying to load a registry key that it doesn't see active. Also, make sure that the EA app/Steam and the game are all on the same drive and not separate drives.
