System Interrupts - freezing / stuttering

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have recently purchased the GOTY edition on PC, I have been able to play the game but occasionally whilst playing it will begin to freeze every 5 seconds or so, the freezing also lasts about 5 seconds, the sound also becomes weird, stuttering mostly! When this occurs once I exit the game the PC continues to freeze on and off every 5 seconds or so and the mouse pointer is not visible, the only way to solve this problem is to restart the PC.

One time it happened I entered task manager and noticed that something called 'system interrupts was spiking randomly whilst this was happening, it would go from 0% to 15% to 40% to 5% and so on and so forth.

I have disabled the EA overlay or whatever it is called and I have been able to play the game for a few hours at a time, it seems quite random, I have the latest graphics driver, which I was required to install to play the game. I have not updated anything else other than what Windows automatically installs and I am running Windows 8.1

Any help would be much appreciated.

This is ridiculous, the game is virtually unplayable in this state

I tried a clean boot, switched from avast to AVG and nothing works.

  • Is your graphics setting Mantle or DirectX? Mantle did a heavy load on my PC when I tried it so I switched back to DirectX.

I'll be honest, I'm not even sure how to do that!  Sorry, I'm pretty useless, I hardly ever mess around with my settings except in game and could not see any options to choose such settings in game.

  • Main menu, Options, Display, Graphics Api. If you see there something else than Direct3D 11, change it, restart game.

Ah okay, yes thanks I had seen that but I am afraid it is locked to DirectX3D.

By the way the freezing only appears to start after a loading screen / start up.

Are you using the Xbox controller to play the game? I've heard some people have had issues with controllers (not something I've really paid attention to, so don't remember what sort of issues), but maybe try removing the controller, see if that helps? (Quick and easy thing to test, anyway).
Your system meets the system requirements for the game, so it shouldn't be anything like that.
If you think the system interrupts thing is causing the issue, you might want to try Microsoft or Alienware (since according to your dxdiag that's who built your computer).
I've also noticed you've got a few errors down the bottom of your dxdiag, several to do with Windows Update. So perhaps Microsoft would be your best bet. Unless someone here has a solution. 🙂

I do use an Xbox controller so I will try that when I get a chance, thank you for your help and suggestions, I will see what I can do and hopefully get the game running properly!

Okay, I believe I have fixed the problem, at least so far, touch wood!  In case anyone else is having this problem maybe this will help.

I noticed the problem began occuring when playing other games and became more frequent, I put this down to the fact DAI forced me to upgrade my graphics driver and previously I had never updated it because, well, if it ain't broke don't fix it!  After spending a lot of time testing different drivers I finally found one that appears stable.  For me it was Nvidia 344.75.  I tried many later drivers than this and each time the problem kept occurring.  My graphics card is Nvidia GTX 660, I guess if people are having this problem and their system meets the minimum requirements to run the game then try using different drivers and hope you find one that works.

I assume most people will already know this and it is probably quite basic but maybe this will help someone.
