System resets randomly when entering Inventory and other menus on GTX 970

Does anyone else experience this weird hardware reset issue when entering menus? The game plays fine on Ultra when exploring and in combat but crashes with a black screen and the system resets when doing anything that requires interacting with menu. I was playing on a 770 before and doesn't have this issue at all. Doesn't seem to be a power suuply issue as the 770 draws more power then the 970. Posting this as I don't see other people experiencing this issue specifically. I have an intel 4690K quad core and nothing's overclocked. Need to decide if it's hardware issue if not I'll have to wait for patch.

Not sure if it will help anyone else but I think I have found the culprit to be the effects graphics setting. On ultra it would consistently crash whenever I go into Character view or inventory. After reducing it to High I haven't had it crash so far.

I don't have anything showing up at 1033 closest is 1032 which is my COMODO Firewall and it occupies PID 1032-1035, or 0x408-0x40B, it probably differs for everyone.

I think that the Locale ID: 1033 is just meaning that Windows and or Keyboard is set to English/United States.

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb964664.aspx

What you want is the BCC: or Bug Check Code, and the parameters after it (and the dmp file. :P)

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh994433.aspx

  • which brings up the intersting fact that the issues you are having could be caused by your antivirus/security software.....

    unless i can't count anymore... doesn't 1033, fit snuggly inbetween 1032 and 1035?

Try turning it off temporarily and seeing if you have the same issue.

if you have the same issue with it off, then it most likely is some thing else...

but if my hunch is right...

uninstall with a cleaning tool, if it's available. then doing a fresh -clean- install

    of the comodo software.

also after re-installing it, make sure you set the firewall permissions for the game. :0

  • ok, if i read the information correctly is a hardware error caused by your graphics card.

uninstall all graphics drivers, before shutting down.

    once shut down,

turn power supply switch to off , and disconnect the a/c power cord.

disconnect the video cable from the card,

remove the +12v rail(s) from the card,

    uninstall the card,

reinstall the card again, making sure it "clicks" into place in the clamp for the PCIe slot

    reconnect video, and power.

plug a/c back in, and turn power switch back on.

    boot to bios

and set video initialization to PCI(e)

hit F10 to save and reboot

see if you still get the error on start up.

    Are you overclocking anything?

Do you have motherboard software and special motherboard drivers installed that allows you to overclock the CPU and change voltages from Windows?

If yes revert overclock changes to defaults and uninstall software&drivers.

This error is usually due to overclock, Failing/unstable PSU, CPU not getting enough voltage, failing ram, also could be due to hardware overheating (northbridge), in rare cases antivirus/firewall software, and outdated drivers. And lastly failing CPU which requires an RMA.

Could be the motherboard BIOS doesn't handle the Vcc on Auto that well, and gives it either too little or too much especially when CPU is under load and Turbo Boost kicks in. Some BIOS might allow you modify the auto value slightly with a offset value. I wouldn't recommend messing with the voltages, usually leaving everything on AUTO settings are good enough provided you do not overclock that much.

Make sure you system is properly cooled and that your PSU is able to handle the load.

    Test RAM overnight: http://www.memtest86.com/

Stresstest CPU: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19792 I'll just assume you have an Intel proc. =) Otherwise try Prime95 http://www.mersenne.org/download/ and do a blend test. Also IntelBurnTest: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/intelburntest.html

Wow thanks for quick replies first, i'm gonna try taking out graphic card and pluging it back in might have gotten lose somehow.

About overclocking i didnt do anything myself but i think my graphic card is one of those "factory boosted ones" but i never changed anything, my motherboard i suppose to support this kind of features and a core unlocker for the cpu but again never got around to modifying it, i ll list my full spec for you right below.

    Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M LX3 chipset AMD 760G(780L)/SB70

GPU: GTX650 ti (factory overclock) 2gb

    CPU: AMD Fx 6300

    6 gb ram

    windows 7 sp1

Hey, as i was writting this i realized something peculiar........ my motherboard support ram barrets at frequencies of: 1866/1600/1333/1066 Mhz DDR3 (as written on the box) and my CPU ID tells me that my current Barrets run at 800 mhz for one and 667 mhz so that sounds suspicious... Could that be it? The other day i ran the error tool against my ram, both came out clean,,, but if they running at a lower frequency than they should they wouldn't have to be broken to bug would they ?

Trusted abuddy of mine with restoring my comp a few month ago and i didnt check this sort of thing.. What do you think?

you have dual channel memory(or three, or four)... what you see on cpuid is only half (third/quarter) of what it is actually putting out, as it only accounts for one channel...the thing that concerns me about this is, that one is running slower than the other... you may want to take the slower one out.

you will lose resources, but your your memory won't  auto throttle to the slower speed.

or another thing you could do, if your budget allows  is to get a new *set* of memory.

that way you can be pretty sure that all the dimms are running at the same freq's and clocks.

also try not to mix vendors, try t ogo with all corsair, or rampage, or crucial, etc.

and as I stated a moment ago, try to get packaged sets.... so that way they are from the same

    maufacturing lot, for best compatibility.

I doubt that the crash was caused from this, but you never really know.

And the bad coding in the game is gpu related, a.f.a.i.k.

And seeing as how this game misallocates the resources, and over stresses the hardware, .....

Haha all true the game has a lot of probs but i have been having this sort of issues with different games for a while, not always recent ones, so i think for me it comes down to two things, SPU as you explained earlier, haha we actually talked about this on 2 threads sorry btw, and the ram.

SPU because i actually dont know for sure what i have and what i need now, and especially Ram in the end because (my understanding of this is really basic ) when i start the game after a fresh computer start i get 2 sometimes 3h gameplay uninterrupted, but when i start the game after some work or watching some movies it takes at most 20 min for it to restart. Now the way ram was explained to me (simplified) is that the longer you use your comp the more ram you consume and eventually you need to restart to refresh it, which would explain if i have weak ram why on fresh start i get to use the program longer... BUT i'm no pro don't know if i m just talking out of my b**t here or no.

Anyways thank you a lot for all the help, i ll update when i ve something. Probably gonna end up droping by a shop for a check up lol.

    Good luck to you all!

EDIT: After autopsy my graphic card was loose in its port !! Corrected that testing now !!!

  • glad things are looking a little brighter for you, and that your GPU is now snuggly resting in its PCIe slot.

post back here if you still get the BSODs

Just want to reitterate about getting a new *set* of ram though.

Most asus boards (I have one too M5A99FX Pro) allow you to

adjust the frequency of the ram- If you get memory with a frequency

over 1333Hz, the bios will default it to 1333Hz, if your cpu supports

it, you will have to maually adjust your bios to accomodate the new

ram, so you can utilize it at its full specced speed.
