For the Sutherland quest - I think that the operation to save them goes away after "What Pride Had Wrought," because I had the "Sutherland and Company Missing" operation but I intended to do it later. After I completed What Pride Had Wrought, it was no longer there. So, I guess make sure you complete that operation before doing that main story quest.
