So I see this is not a recent issue, nor one just I am experiencing. It's a known issue with the awkward system that EA are unconcerned about fixing. This is the first paid for DLC I tried. In different places I was informed different things. One place stated I could download it for origin, but no details how. In another place it stated that I just started the game and it'd be there, but it lied.
I don't normally log in because I disapprove of nosey commercial companies wanting to know what I'm doing; since it is none of their business; but I have logged in for a time now trying to get this to work. No joy.
I try to contact EA but their chat window doesn't work. It says 5 minutes wait, but it is all lies. Hours later and it still says it is connecting. Check next morning and it still says it's connecting. Look into one's account page and it may, there, tell you it has timed out. I presently have at least 4 attempts shown in the case page, all claiming to be connecting, or words to that effect.
It's not as if the site pages are easy to navigate or find the one you are looking for. It's a case of stumbling around and hoping to find where you want to go.
(I have, whilst writing this, checked the page again and some resume buttons, there were not there before, have appeared. I am attempting to resume the original case. Not that I have any faith they will do anything.)
Try to find an e-mail address to use, which is my second preference, and they only have department addresses that claim they can not deal with the issue. I get the impression customer services have been hired out to the cheapest sub-contractor, so other departments have no way to move anything along. Or it may be that they just don't care. In fact I get the impression CS must just sleep all day then mark cases they've not bothered with "fulfilled" in order to make the stats look ok. If this doesn't occur they make a good job and making it seem so. I'm being totally ignored.
On the advice found here I have tried, first to ensure updates are in and then to repair. Neither did anything. Old game/ new game, nothing shows re Trespasser.
It seems my only choices is to either pay for a call to customer (lack of) services and let them have my telephone number, which given the image of and experience from EA is not something I'd wish to do; or get them to call me, if they can be bothered, and again give them my phone number.
This is absolutely appalling. One of the worst companies I've ever had dealings with. Took the money, didn't supply the product, or at least no evidence of it, then ignored me. Seriously thinking of getting Paypal to reimburse me for goods not received.

@YouNoseyB If the EA chat window does nothing for an hour, it's likely a problem with your browser or plugins. Try again with a different browser. The 'estimated time' is generally way off until it gets under 4 minutes.
As for your issue, I'm assuming you installed the DLC through Origin after purchasing it? After this, did you log in to the servers in-game (while also being logged in to Origin)? This must be done to authenticate DLC. Once this has been done, you should be able to tell at any point in the game if Trespasser is working, as you will have access to extra upgrade choices for your active abilities as well as the Trials (found in options via the main menu). The actual Trespasser mission on the war map won't show up until after the main campaign has been completed, as it advances you to 2 years later.
If you could point out what problem, exactly, you're having, other than your dismay at the level of customer service offered by EA (these boards are for players to help each other out, they are not official technical support, so complaining about EA technical support isn't going to accomplish much here, I'm afraid), perhaps we could help you. We'll try our best, at least 🙂

Hi Niah.
I'd love to know how one is supposed to install stuff via Origins. I don't recall the Black Emporium being quite such a pain, although it was only then when I discovered the need to log in. That was some time ago.
Should I look in 'my games' or 'store' to install ? I was under the impression it should sort itself and be there when the game is opened; as Black Emporium was once I'd logged in. If I right click on the Inquisition icon I see a lot of options but no 'install'. There is an 'uninstall' though. There seems a lack of instruction on what to do; it seems implied it'll just work.
If it is any clue, my excessive time trying to get this to work has uncovered the existence of a Golden Nug, which I'd not spotted before; but I think that is a patch change rather than a Trespasser change. (It seems to be used to cheat and get stuff in the present game that you found in the past ones.) Not helped the issue though.
Yes, I've had both Origin and the game logged in at once. I've never seen a "trials" option in any menu. Including the sub-menus of options.
I've realised the new game may not show anything but the previous ones are not showing anything on the map either. I'm unsure what else to say. In a nutshell it isn't evident. Happy to answer questions if anyone thinks they may have a possible solution.
(BTW probably best if it isn't official EA website as they might censor fair comment about experiences, and not allow others to know what to expect.)
I shall be away from my PC for a few days so although I should be able to visit here I won't be able to try suggestion, or check things to answer, for a while.
Just occurred to me, may be a red herring. When I downloaded the free emporium I was on Windows 7, now I'm on Windows 10.

OK, yeah, I think they changed the way DLC is handled at some point (I wasn't playing much at the time, so I guess I didn't notice).
To get to your DLC, hover your mouse over the game in your library and click the i button. This should bring you to a page with some information about the game. Scroll down to the add-ons & bonuses section, that's where your DLCs can be found. There are several free multiplayer ones, as well as the Black Emporium, they will all have 'Download' or 'Install' buttons (unless they're installed already, in which case they will just say 'Installed'), as will any DLC you own (such as Trespasser). Anything you don't own will have a 'Buy Now' button.
So, to Install Trespasser, just click the 'Download' or 'Install' button next to Trespasser on that page (sorry, I honestly don't remember which it is, my memory is rather uncooperative some days 😛 ).
Once it has downloaded and installed (there will be a pop-up telling you that it's ready to play), you will need to log in to the Dragon Age servers in game in order for the DLC to authenticate. If Black Emporium works for you, you've done this before or you play logged in all the time.
The golden nug (and a wardrobe in your bedroom at Skyhold) were part of a patch (possibly patch 10, released not long before Trespasser and intended to be the final patch... until Trespasser was just... oh so full of bugs and required another).
This is an official EA website, it is just not a provider of official technical support. 😉
Hope that helps, if you have any more questions, feel free to ask. 🙂
