I had this issue a couple of days ago. Do the normal shut down, turn back on for your xbox, but DON'T sign in. Start the game, and after it asks you to press the menu button, and you do it, it should prompt you to sign in. This is the only thing that helped for me. Maybe it was coincidence, I don't know, but it worked once and I've never had the issue again.
I had the same problem. Tried the solution of logging out first. When I hit menu, it asked to log me in, but froze immediately after. I've rebooted 7 or 8 times. Put in another game. Tried to run other applications in between. Even waited in the menu for 5 minutes before hitting "menu"--nothing works. Is it my xbox, or is it the game? Or is it the servers its trying to connect to? What gives? Kinda frustrating to pay 60+ for this for a product that isn't working.
