Can't command companions to perform special actions

Hi, not sure what happened, but ever since I got the dagger that was supposed to help me perform special actions even without companions in my current party, those actions are not working even when ...

Just an update, not sure what helped. Whether turning my PC off completely or then verifying game files. But it works now for Lucanis. So no longer stuck.
