Can't command companions to perform special actions

Hi, not sure what happened, but ever since I got the dagger that was supposed to help me perform special actions even without companions in my current party, those actions are not working even when ...

And it stopped working again, in the same mission. The second time I have to command Lucanis to make a bridge and he's not responding. No idea what's happening there.
